KDKA-TV is seeking a skilled and dependable News Photographer to join our award-winning newsroom. This position is responsible for capturing high-quality video and audio in the field and contributing to post-production through editing as needed to support KDKA’s broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.
The ideal candidate is a strong visual storyteller with solid news judgment, the ability to perform under deadline pressure, and a clear understanding of the responsibility that comes with representing a CBS owned-and-operated station in the field.

Core Responsibilities:-
Newsgathering & Visual Storytelling:
- Shoot high-quality video and natural sound for daily newscasts, breaking news, and special coverage
- Work closely with reporters, producers, and assignment desk editors to support story needs
- Capture compelling visuals that enhance context, clarity, and impact
- Exercise sound editorial judgment while gathering accurate and ethical coverage
- Respond quickly and professionally to breaking news, severe weather, and major community events throughout Western Pennsylvania
- Operate broadcast camera, audio, lighting, and live transmission equipment
- Set up and execute live shots proficiently and safely
- Edit news content as assigned, including VO/SOTs, packages, and other elements for broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms
- Demonstrate knowledge of pacing, shot selection, sequencing, and basic storytelling structure
- Perform basic color correction, audio balancing, and quality control to meet KDKA standards
- Maintain awareness of safety, surroundings, and changing newsroom priorities
- Follow KDKA and CBS News & Stations guidelines for ethical journalism and field safety
- Communicate clearly and consistently with reporters, producers, editors, and news managers
- Support extended and wall-to-wall coverage during major breaking news events
- Participate in enterprise reporting and special projects as assigned
- Represent KDKA professionally in the field and within the community
- Minimum 2–5 years of television news photography experience (level dependent)
- Working knowledge of non-linear video editing systems (Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid, or similar)
- Strong shooting skills with an eye for composition and natural sound
- Solid knowledge of audio capture and basic lighting techniques
- Ability to work calmly and proficiently under tight deadlines
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness to work flexible shifts including early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, and breaking news
- Experience in a large-market or CBS O&O newsroom
- Familiarity with live news, severe weather, and breaking news workflows
- Knowledge of newsroom media management systems
- Drone or specialty camera experience (where applicable and properly licensed)
