The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing routine maintenance and repair tasks across buildings, equipment, and facility systems. This role requires basic practical skills and a working knowledge of multiple trades, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. The position supports higher-level trades personnel and ensures facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance and minor repairs on building systems, equipment, and infrastructure
- Replace and repair components such as light fixtures, switches, receptacles, belts, and small motors
- Conduct minor patching and repair of walls and ceilings, including painting and surface touch-ups
- Repair or replace plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, water coolers, and lavatory components (washers, seats, etc.)
- Install and replace carpet tiles and perform basic flooring repairs
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks such as filter changes and general cleaning of equipment and work areas
- Assist with mechanical and maintenance work, including the use of hand tools and basic equipment
- Support laborer functions such as moving materials and maintaining clean and organized workspaces
- Assist higher-level trades personnel with maintenance and repair tasks as needed
- Follow safety procedures, policies, and regulatory requirements at all times
- Perform other related maintenance duties as assigned by management
- This position is not a journeyman-level role and does not independently lead or manage jobs
- Work is performed under the direction of supervisors or skilled trades personnel
- Additional duties may be assigned based on operational needs
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- 1–3 years of general maintenance or facilities experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
- Ability to use hand tools and basic maintenance equipment safely and effectively
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials (up to 50 lbs or more as required)
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing
- May work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces
- Exposure to varying temperatures and environmental conditions
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
