The Payroll & Benefits Manager is responsible for overseeing accurate, compliant, and timely multi-state payroll processing and administration of firm-wide employee benefits programs. This role partners closely with HR, Finance, and Firm Leadership to ensure an exceptional employee experience while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and experienced in managing payroll and benefits operations within a fast-paced professional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end multi-state payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely execution.
- Administer employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, FSA/HSA, life insurance, disability, 401(k), and leave programs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll and benefits vendors, ensuring effective communication and issue resolution.
- Lead annual open enrollment processes and employee benefits communications.
- Conduct regular audits of payroll and benefits data to maintain accuracy, data integrity, and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor and implement changes related to federal, state, and local payroll, wage, tax, and employment laws.
- Support year-end reporting and compliance activities, including W-2 processing, ACA filings, 401(k) compliance testing, and audits.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, benefits eligibility, and related matters in a professional and timely manner.
- Collaborate with HR and Finance leadership on process improvements, HRIS/payroll system enhancements, and firmwide initiatives.
- Maintain payroll and benefits records in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- 5 years of payroll and benefits administration experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
- Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations and employment compliance requirements.
- Experience managing payroll and benefits through HRIS/payroll platforms, preferably ADP.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and leadership levels.
- CPP, PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar certification preferred.
Salary : $120,000 - $160,000
