What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at CBIZ Talent Solutions?
Our client- a boutique Law Firm- is in search of a Controller to drive the accuracy, organization, and transparency of the firm’s finances and deliver clear reporting on performance and key metrics.
Key outcomes
- Produce monthly financial statements and compile the executive reporting packet with all attachments.
- Verify and pay monthly gross receipts/sales taxes.
- Review holding account activity daily (AP, credit card/Spark, sales tax payable, payroll, etc.) for accuracy.
- Maintain and reconcile the Owner’s personal accounts and Parnall Land accounts.
Core responsibilities
- Participate in finance meetings with the Owner, Executive Team, and CFO.
- Audit the settlement spreadsheet (as requested by the Operations Manager).
- Review bookkeeper work weekly; provide day‑to‑day oversight of the bookkeeping team.
- Initiate ACH for client settlements; manage reporting and positive pay as needed.
- Confirm check status and provide images upon request.
- Execute internal bank transfers when required.
- Own the firm’s budget and lead quarterly reviews with the Owner and CFO.
- Provide support to the Firm Administrator as needed.
Reporting lines
- Reports to the Operations Director.
- Provides oversight for the Bookkeeping Team.

- Hands‑on accounting/finance leader with strong attention to detail and follow‑through.
- Confident managing close cadence, tax payments, reconciliations, controls, and team supervision.
- Strong communicator who thrives in a structured, collaborative environment.
