We explore the unfolding story of America by actively collecting, exhibiting, interpreting, and preserving outstanding works that illuminate the American heritage and artistic possibilities. Founded by Alice Walton in 2005, the museum opened in 2011 and is a public, non-profit charitable organization with free admission. Position Summary: The Inclusion and Belonging Internship at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art offers an emerging professional the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that advance the museum’s commitment to inclusion and belonging. Working closely with the Inclusion and Belonging team, the intern will support initiatives that foster a welcoming, accessible, and affirming environment for all visitors, staff, and community partners. Through hands-on project work, research, program support, and collaboration across departments, the intern will gain valuable experience in organizational strategy, community engagement, and inclusive practices within the museum field. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about cultural equity, social impact, and using art as a platform for connection and dialogue. The Inclusion and Belonging Intern will also have opportunities for professional development, mentorship, and networking with museum professionals, contributing to their growth as future leaders in arts, culture, and inclusion work. Duties and Responsibilities: Research and Writing Research best practices Assist in writing reports for department initiatives Contribute to ongoing projects Community Engagement (internal and external) Support the facilitation of museum advisory councils Collaborate with departments across the museum Understand components of community development internally and externally Workplace Culture and Staff Engagement Learn about departments and their roles Learn about and assist with Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) Assist with ERG Celebrations Cultural Heritage Months Guest Speakers Procedures and Structure Support accessibility initiatives across the museum Develop and facilitate workshops to support staff development Assist with facilitating meetings The intern will work closely with the Director of Inclusion and Belonging to learn and gain real world experience. Students will be required to submit a current schedule or official transcript. Compensation: High School Interns: $12.00 Undergraduate Students: $13.00 Graduate Students: $14.00 To qualify for bachelor’s or master’s compensation, you must be enrolled in an accredited program or have graduated from an accredited program within the last three years. Physical Demands and Work Environment: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an intern to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Physical demands: In the work environment described below, position requires work at a desk, utilizing a computer and a telephone for prolonged periods of time, good eye/hand coordination, bending and stretching for filing, and physical stamina to lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of at least three feet for file and materials storage as appropriate for the demands of the office. Visual acuity to review written materials is required for this job. Work environment: Work will be performed in an office environment and museum spaces. The noise level in the museum work environment is usually low to moderate. If the intern’s personal equipment is used, the museum accepts no liability for any damage caused to said equipment while being used for museum purposes, nor loss or corruption of electronic files on devices.
