Cayuga Height School Age Program (CHSAP) is currently hiring program counselors for our after school program to finish out the 2025-2026 school year. April-June 26th
We are looking for responsible and fun people to join our program. Based out of Cayuga Heights Elementary School, CHSAP strives to create a fun and relaxed environment for kids to unwind after school. We're play based with plenty of activities for all interests, including outside time, gym play, arts and crafts and special clubs. Job Description-Program Counselor
Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years old. Program counselor must have a high school diploma and experience with children ages 4-11 years old. Preferably, should have or be working on Associates or Bachelor’s degree in education or related field and experience with school aged children in a recreational program. Program counselor must be in good health, be responsible, reliable, and dependable. Program counselor must demonstrate capability and interest in working with children and with other adults. Must be of good character, mature, and must exercise good judgement.
Status: Part-time hourly position for the school calendar year.
1:30-5:30 PM Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday schedule on regular school days with extra hours available on full days and school conference days. Also includes staff meetings and staff trainings.
Job Summary: The program counselor will help the program director and assistant director with the daily implementation of the program and will help ensure the well-being of the attendees (children).
Pay/Benefits: $19.00/hour 12 paid sick days.
Job Duties:
Assist with planning of daily activities, clubs, and snacks
Facilitate the daily program as follows:
· Help prepare snack and materials for projects daily
· Help take attendance daily. Report any children not present to the program director or assistant director immediately.
· Help serve and clean up snack.
· Help supervise safe play by the children on the playground, at the creek, and in the building.
· Be sensitive to needs of the children and work to find activities where they will be happy or assist children in working out solutions to a problem.
· Help children with homework when necessary.
· Help make sure health procedures are followed, including hand washing before snack, proper serving and clean up of snack, administering and reporting first-aid as needed.
· Help maintain an atmosphere where children feel safe and secure.
· Maintain the state mandated 1:10 ratio in all program areas.
· Follow and enforce all school and program rules. Follow all OCFS guidelines.

About Cayuga Heights School Age Program (CHSAP)
The Cayuga Heights School Age Program (CHSAP) is a private, not-for-profit, parent/guardian governed organization serving children and families in the Ithaca area. CHSAP is open every afternoon after school, runs an all-day program on most school vacation and conference days, and operates a two week summer camp at the end of August. We offer a wide array of activities including but not limited to art projects, dance classes, homework club, chess club, gardening and cooking projects. Our program serves those in grades kindergarten through 5th and strives to be a fun, supportive environment for all!
