Job Summary
A Team Leader is a registered professional nurse who provides staff support, and works in conjunction with the Unit Manager and Unit Director. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, the Team Leader works to improve patient care and experience through effective staff communication, observation, and measurement of specific interventions/practices and their associated outcomes.
The Team Leader plays a pivotal role in fostering relationships with staff for retention, recruitment, mentoring, and patient and staff satisfaction. The Team Leader fosters teamwork and collaboration with patients and the interdisciplinary team. The Team Leader plays a significant role in assisting the nurse manager in achieving clinical and financial goals along with management of human/material resources as delegated.
Education / Experience Qualifications
Required:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Licensure: Active applicable license in the State of New York.
- Certification: BLS
Job Functions
- Adheres to complete job description of a Registered Nurse
- Participates in customer service rounding and demonstrates strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Initiates and maintains positive and professional relationships and actively furthers the nursing profession at CHS
- Takes the lead by becoming superuser in implementing new processes and supports a learning environment
- Real-time staff education, mentoring, and coaching relating to care, communication, and unit operations with the purpose of supporting excellent patient care as well as supporting educators and managers
- Fosters positive patient experience in line with organizational expectations and goals including fostering team work and collaboration
- Engages in maintaining patient throughput (admissions, transfers, discharges, etc.), manages productivity, and day-to-day adjustments in staffing. Documents deviations with explanation. Completes audits as assigned
- Flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above

Primarily acts as the shift charge nurse

Education / Experience Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 1 year experience in current setting
Preferred:
- BSN preferred
- Applicable professional certification
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 35 pounds as part of safe patient handling practices. Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to stand, walk or move around continuously for extended periods, often for the majority of the shift
- Ability to interact with electronic health records, learning platforms, or other digital systems, requiring frequent and sustained screen viewing throughout the workday; repetitive use of hands and fingers.
- Must be able to work in extreme heat or cold
