Job Title: Maternal Child Health Assistant Nurse Manager

Reports To: Unit Manager and Unit Director

Job Summary:

The Assistant Nurse Manager will provide daily operational oversight while working alongside colleagues and physicians to reach optimal outcomes. Provides and integrates clinical leadership and management of patient care, consistent with the philosophy and goals of the institution, department of nursing, and clinical service; develops and sustains an environment of excellence in patient / family service, growth and development of staff, and application of evidenced-based practice. The Assistant Nurse Manager collaborates with leadership to enhance patient experience, quality outcomes, nurse retention and recruitment, staff scheduling, and financial stewardship. The Assistant Nurse Manager plays a crucial role to ensure unit compliance for all Joint Commission patient care standards.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrates and promotes effective communication, respect and recognition to team members with consistent action toward a comfortable culture to result in nurse retention.
  2. Guides clinical management and administrative coordination of department utilizing interdisciplinary resources
  3. Assist with selecting, orienting, educating, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and evaluation of staff with Nurse Manager/Director consistent with principles of a caring, fair, and professional work environment.
    1. Ensures staff are well trained and familiar with all aspects of patient care.
    2. Participate in annual employee evaluations and process.
    3. Coordinates a high standard of care in accordance with regulations and standards.
    4. Assists leadership team by partnering with employees who are in an action plan or need to improve in the function of their role.
  4. Responsible for participating in shared decision-making within the established annual unit budget and for making recommendations and decisions which promote the cost-effective allocation of resources.
    1. Monitors productivity and coaches staff into flexibility
    2. Facilitates cost savings
  5. Coaches staff for continual delivery of high-quality nursing care in collaboration with Nurse Manager, Director, Clinical Educator, and other members of the leadership team through measurement of health outcomes against standards.
    1. Participates in quality improvement programs consistent with organizational goals.
    2. Guides high standard of nursing care in accordance with regulations and standards
  6. In collaboration with the Unit Manager, responsible for the consistent implementation and monitoring of organizational policies, goals and standards within the unit.
  7. Present new processes and/or information to the nursing staff and collaborates with the Unit Manager and Clinical Educator regarding education, to identify educational needs and learning situations for nursing staff.
  8. Ensures a collaborative interdisciplinary approach to achieve optimal patient care outcomes and to further the goals of the institution through rounding with patients, family members, allied healthcare professionals, and the care delivery environment.
  9. Responsible for knowledge, and application of all personnel policies.
  10. Responsible for monitoring specialty area operations and to identify and report problems associated with staff performance, resource issues, and patient care issues to the Unit Manager/Director.
  11. Identify own professional development needs and seek appropriate resources to meet them.
  12. Upholds all job responsibilities of a Registered Nurse and Team Lead.
  13. Displays commitment to the mission of the hospital and its values.
  14. Is flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above.

Requirements:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Licensure: Currently licensed in the State of New York as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Certification: Will obtain BLS during introductory period, ACLS, PALS and NRP
  • Physical Requirements: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., Use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs), including boxes, equipment, IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time may be necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.

Salary : $89,440 - $106,080
