About the Program and Registered Nurse Position:
Our Transitional Foster Care Program for Unaccompanied Children (UC) overseen by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), ensures the well-being and safety of unaccompanied children (ages 0-17) who cross the US Southern border without an adult. Unlike traditional congregate care settings, our approach involves placing unaccompanied children in foster homes while diligently searching for and assessing potential sponsors identified in the US. During their stay with us, we provide medical care, case management, engaging life skills classes, and essential mental health services.
Our RNs provide medical care required by the unaccompanied children we serve. We are looking for RNs who are passionate about helping this vulnerable populations and able to support a busy medical office. The role is crucial to the health & well-being of our accompanied children who are trying to establish a new home in the U.S.

How you get to use your skills as a Registered Nurse…
- Assist with initial medical assessments
- Perform vitals and point of care waived testing (i.e., urine pregnancy test, strep test, flu test, COVID test, glucose test)
- Review immunization records, draw up and administer necessary immunizations
- Update City Immunization Registry
- Administer medications, track medication administration record as provided by the foster parent, and assist with required documentation for prescriptions
- Act as an English-Spanish translator for a medical provider
- Work collaboratively with the Medical Provider, Case Manager, Clinician, Medical Assistant, and Skills Trainer to coordinate appropriate services for each youth
- Administer and ready TB Tests to youth
- Responsible for all medical reporting requirements, which include the government UC portal as well as the internal electronic medical record MEDENT
- NYS Registered Nurse
- Experience working with youth
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Bilingual - English-Spanish required
- Ability to work effectively in a team context
- Demonstrated ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and to exercise greater judgement
- Word processing: Including responding to emails, composing letters, completing computerized documentation, being familiar with Excel, and the electronic medical record system, etc.: This involves sitting at a computer for several hours
- Completing paperwork - such as copying, scanning, and faxing documentation
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Regular hours entail 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday - Friday
