Caylor Jacobsen
Choteau, MT Temporary
POSTED ON 4/14/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/31/2026
January 20-Mid April we will be assisting cows with birthing process and providing feed to the cows daily. We also during this time fertilize our hay ground for the next year's crop. In short to begin the year we need additional labor to help calve the cattle as they need to be monitored 24 hours a day during this time. Mid-April-Mid June we will be preparing fence for summer pasture, flood irrigating fields, vaccinating cattle, and herding or hauling cattle to desired locations for summer pasture. While also spraying pastures for noxious weeds. The fence is prepared during this time as it may have been damaged during winter weather or wildlife. Mid-June through mid-September- we will primarily be harvesting our hay crop and irrigating hay crop for 2nd cutting which also happens in this time frame, while performing other tasks such as rotating cattle to different pastures. Late Summer through fall additional labor is used to move hay forage to a more centralized location where it will be used following year and helping wean and pregnancy check cattle. Mid-September through October- we perform maintenance to the haying equipment, begin to consolidate the cattle to a location closer to main area of operation. Then will wean and sell the calves followed by assisting in pregnancy detecting cattle for following year. We will also continue relocated hay to proper location if needed. Weaning occurs during this time because of the age of calves by design of when we had the animal bred and there are more opportunities to market/sell calves. After calves are sold, no further help is needed until the following calving season. Job duties will include: operate tractors, irrigation equipment, irrigate soil, using portable pipes or ditch systems, and maintain ditches or pipes and pumps clean stalls, pens, and equipment, using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, or pumps, drive trucks, tractors, and other equipment to distribute feed to animals, examine animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain, feed and water livestock and monitor food and water supplies, herd livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures, inspect, maintain, and repair equipment, machinery, buildings, pens, yards, and fences, maintain growth, feeding, production, and cost records, mark livestock to identify ownership and grade, using brands, tags, paint, or tattoos, and care for animals. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. Workers returning for a consecutive season will be paid at their previous season’s rate if that rate exceeds the current published rate.
