Our client, a well-established and highly respected engineering consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Municipal Practice Leader to lead and grow its Municipal Engineering practice in Newark, New Jersey.


This is an outstanding opportunity for a senior municipal engineering professional who is passionate about serving public-sector clients, leading high-performing teams, and helping expand a successful municipal practice throughout New Jersey.


The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience managing municipal engineering projects, maintaining strong relationships with municipal leaders, and driving business growth while mentoring the next generation of engineers.


Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage a diverse portfolio of municipal engineering projects for municipalities, counties, and public authorities.

Serve as a trusted advisor to municipal clients and act as Municipal Engineer and/or Board Engineer when required.

Oversee subdivision, site plan, and land development application reviews for Planning and Zoning Boards.

Manage capital improvement projects from planning and design through construction.

Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans.

Monitor project financial performance and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Build and maintain long-term relationships with municipal clients and public officials.

Prepare proposals, fee estimates, and project budgets.

Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Provide technical leadership in:

Roadway Design

Stormwater Management

Drainage

Hydrology & Hydraulics (H&H)

Grading

Water & Wastewater Utilities

Site Development

Infrastructure Improvements

Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards and regulatory requirements.

Mentor junior engineers and project managers while fostering a collaborative team environment.

Support business development efforts and help grow the Municipal Engineering practice throughout New Jersey.


Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field

Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey

12 years of progressive municipal and civil engineering experience

Strong project management and client relationship management experience

Proven experience leading municipal engineering projects

Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Municipal Engineer (CME)

Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams

Strong understanding of permitting, regulatory compliance, and municipal processes

Experience preparing contracts, proposals, and fee estimates

Strong budgeting, scheduling, and resource management skills
