Organizational Overview:
The Cavalla Historical Foundation (CHF) is a non-profit, 501(c)3, headquartered in Galveston County, Texas. The CHF oversees and operates the Galveston Naval Museum (GNM), located at Seawolf Park on Pelican Island in Galveston, Texas.

Reports to: Ship Superintendent
General Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Ship Superintendent, the Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing metal preservation and general maintenance and repairs on facility equipment and property structures in accordance with ISO preservation schedules and manufacturers technical manuals. All work will be done in compliance with EPA, Hazmat and OSHA safety rules and regulations.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on industrial and household appliances. Advise on conditions of equipment and make recommendations on corrective maintenance actions.
- Assist with maintaining and cleaning tourist routes.
- Provide friendly communications with general public who visit our museum.
- Perform minor building, HVAC, plumbing, electrical repairs as necessary.
- Implement preventative maintenance measures for equipment and machinery.
- Maintain inventory of repair equipment and supplies.
- Complete inspections of fire and safety equipment and systems.
- Respond quickly in the event of an emergency, notify appropriate personnel and follow safety protocols.
- Prepares all vessels and equipment for inclement weather to include storm conditions and maintain an effective emergency contingency plan.
- Perform other maintenance duties as required by Management.
Minimal Qualifications:
- Metal fabrication/ welding experience highly preferred
- Experience in the use of measuring, power and hand tools is required for this position.
- Experienced in operating a variety of equipment, including snow blowers, lawn mowers and small hand tools
- Prior experience in a maintenance role in an industrial company.
- Pride in performing quality workmanship.
- Ability to read and apply ISO standards, technical manual instructions and adhere to OSHA regulations.
- Must have an inherent ability to communicate with and leave a positive impression with the general public.
- High school diploma / GED required.
- Ability to work closely with, take direction from, and cooperate with the CHF Facilities Committee and the Executive Director in executing the Foundation’s Strategic Facilities Plan.
- Proficient in basic computer and standard office-suite business applications. Database management a plus.
- Ability to work independently, with minimal direction and able to prioritize and accomplish the organization’s goals.
- Possess a working knowledge of basic electricity, mechanics, plumbing and construction.
- Possess and understanding and appreciation for the missions of the U.S. Navy’s surface and subsurface combatants.
Desired Qualifications:
- Associates Degree in an industrial or vocational field of study desired.
- Understanding of Gato-class submarines and Edsall-class destroyer escorts, and their history, theory, operations, maintenance and repair.
- Prior shipboard experience, particularly on a combat ship, is a plus.
- Experience in non-profit organization, particularly in a leadership function, a plus.
- Experience with 480V multi-phase electrical circuits a plus.
- Experience as a petty officer in an engineering rate in the Navy, Coast Guard, or other Maritime Service.
Working Conditions:
- Full Time (40 hours/week) including weekends, holidays and special events. Subject to 24-hour call for emergency response/crisis management.
- Ascend and descend steep ladders on the Naval vessels on a daily/frequent basis to fulfill job duties.
- Perform occasional manual labor to fulfill job duties including lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Work effectively in outdoor settings including extremely hot temperatures or windy/rainy conditions.
- Adhere to organizational dress and grooming standards.

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
