Catts Construction is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our team and ensure the seamless, accurate, and timely compensation of our entire workforce. In this role, you will be the primary steward of our payroll systems, managing everything from tax compliance to benefits deductions with absolute integrity. Job Summary
The Construction Payroll Specialist is responsible for the full-cycle payroll process, focusing on job costing and certified payroll. This role acts as a bridge between the field, HR, and accounting to ensure that labor hours are correctly allocated to specific projects and that all federal and state prevailing wage requirements are met.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Certified Payroll Reporting: Prepare and submit weekly certified payroll reports for State and federal projects to ensure Davis-Bacon Act compliance in multiple states.
- Payroll- Completing the whole process of weekly payroll, from pulling timecards, ensuring no missing hours or employees, monitoring diary reports, and computing direct deposits to bank.
- Job Costing: Review and verify field timesheets to ensure labor hours are accurately charged to the correct job costing codes and projects
- Wage Management: Monitor wage rates and craft classifications based on the project's geographic location.
- Payroll Processing: Execute weekly payroll for union and non-union employees, including calculations for overtime, bonuses, and travel pay.
- Audit Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll audits, workers Comp audits, and agency inquiries.
- Reporting- Perform quarterly and daily reports to agencies (workers Comp, unemployment insurance, 401K, etc.)
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 3–5 years of payroll experience specifically within the Construction industry or a union environment.
- Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is preferred.
- Technical Skills: knowledge of Foundation Software preferred along with advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of FLSA, prevailing wage laws, and multi-state taxation.
