Front-End Administrative Assistant – Cats in the City / TANDEM Cat® (Portland, OR)
We’re looking for a friendly, energetic individual to join our team as a Cat Grooming Assistant. This role works as part of a TANDEM Cat® grooming team, supporting high-need cats in a fast-paced, specialized feline care environment while delivering excellent customer service.
This position blends hands-on animal care, team-based grooming support, and front-of-house client communication.
Responsibilities
- Assess cat coats and identify grooming needs and appropriate solutions
- Support the TANDEM Cat® Grooming Team during grooming sessions
- Provide professional, responsive customer service by phone and in person
- Greet clients, guide them through services, and manage check-in/check-out
- Answer phones, respond to emails and reservations, and provide client education
- Perform administrative and clerical duties to support daily operations
- Make follow-up calls and maintain ongoing client relationships
- Explain policies, services, and fees clearly and confidently
- Process payments using point-of-sale systems
- Manage client updates, photos, grooming records, and correspondence
- Assist with team coordination and leadership support as needed
Cat Care Responsibilities May Include
- Feeding, watering, and monitoring intake and elimination
- Administering medications as instructed
- Applying flea treatments
- General monitoring of feline health and behavior
Requirements
- Valid Oregon driver’s license (required for pet shuttle services)
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and navigate multiple flights of stairs daily
- Weekend availability
Qualifications
- Experience in customer service and client management
- Experience working with cats in a grooming, veterinary, or similar setting preferred
- Background in animal care, kennel management, or veterinary support is a plus
- Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to work in a team-based environment
- Interest in developing advanced feline handling and grooming support skills

- Tip share eligibility after 6 months (adds approximately $4–$10/hour, seasonally adjusted)
