Summary
Provides the Student Intern Medical Technician and/or Technologist with the opportunity to train/work one on one with the laboratory technology preceptor, prior to completion of their A.A.S. Clinical Laboratory Technician program or prior to completion of their junior or senior year in a B.S. Clinical Laboratory Technologist program. Under the supervision of the department Medical Technologists, the intern enrolled as a medical technician/technologist student in an accredited program will be allowed to perform those tasks/duties with which they have become familiar (via theory) and performed (via clinical) thus far during their education on simulated patient samples. Individuals without a valid NYS License will train and perform non- technical tasks and special projects. Primary responsibility is to perform tests on body fluids of simulated patients to provide information for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The ability to properly handle specimens which will be analyzed at a later time is required. The ability to prioritize work to ensure efficient performance is required.

Responsibilities
EDUCATION
- Enrolled in an A.A.S. Medical Technician or B.S. Medical Technology Program, in junior or senior year
- GPA of 2.75 or above on 4.0 scale
- Must obtain valid NYS license within 120 days of graduation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to obtain information and interpret this information in terms of the patient's needs
- Knowledge of growth and development
- Understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients
