Location: Bishop Verot High School | Fort Myers FL
The Custodian at Bishop Verot Catholic High School is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, order, and safety throughout the school premises. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Custodian ensures that all assigned areas are clean, well-organized, and conducive to the learning environment. In addition to regular cleaning tasks, this position supports maintenance projects, assists with tasks such as painting, and contributes to school projects during breaks or closures. The Custodian plays an essential role in creating a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Job Responsibilities- Maintains cleanliness and order in assigned areas of the school, ensuring that all rooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas are clean and well-maintained.
- Takes initiative to report or fix issues related to school facilities, including minor repairs and maintenance needs.
- Manages time effectively to complete tasks according to the established cleaning and maintenance schedules, ensuring that work is completed promptly and thoroughly.
- Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in responding to changes in priorities and additional tasks as they arise.
- Takes the initiative to improve skills by staying current with cleaning techniques and safety protocols.
- Uses appropriate cleaning products and equipment safely and effectively, following all safety guidelines to ensure the environment remains hazard-free.
- Inventories, stores, and uses materials wisely, ensuring resources are used efficiently and that supplies are replenished as needed.
- Possesses and demonstrates the working knowledge of required skills, equipment, and materials necessary for completion of assigned work.
- Adheres to safety guidelines and protocols, ensuring that all custodial tasks are performed in a safe and secure manner.
- Reports security issues and suspicious activities promptly to the Director of Operations or appropriate staff, contributing to the safety and security of the school.
- Ensures the school environment is safe for students, staff, and visitors by identifying and addressing potential hazards or safety concerns promptly.
- Secures school premises by locking doors and monitoring entry points to ensure the building is safe after hours.
Maintenance Support and School Projects
- Assists with maintenance tasks and projects, including painting, repairs, and other tasks, particularly during school closures or breaks when there is an opportunity to focus on larger projects.
- Supports the Director of Operations and maintenance team with hands-on assistance as needed, ensuring that all facilities are maintained and in good working order.
- Works closely with the maintenance team to ensure the school’s physical space is functional and ready for use at all times.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Previous work experience as a maintenance worker, custodian, or janitor
- An understanding of cleaning equipment and how to maintain them
- Understanding of safety protocols and disposal of hazardous waste items
- Ability to lift approximately 50lbs.without assistance.
- Ability to stand, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, climb continuously.
- Valid drivers license.
- Occasional Weekend hours will also be set in advance for specific events, as needed.
- Must pass a post offer physical exam.
