Spanish Teacher - Middle School

Sacred Heart Catholic School in Yankton, South Dakota, is seeking a Middle School Spanish Teacher for grades K through eight for the 2026-27 school year. The successful candidate is an educator who will foster growth in students’ understanding and appreciation of the Spanish language and culture. The ideal candidate should be passionate about Spanish language education, able to work collaboratively, and desire to contribute to a faith-based educational community.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Teach beginning Spanish through advanced level coursework for grades K-8 through the study of language and culture. Commuting between the two schools would be expected.

• Qualification for 9th grade Spanish preferred.

• Foster the advancement and enhancement of fluency in reading, writing, speaking and listening in Spanish

• Incorporating the basic linguistic and cultural aspects of the Spanish language.

• Help students develop knowledge, understanding, and appreciation for other cultures, languages, and countries

• Designs age and skill-appropriate lessons independently and collaboratively with grade-level teams

• Serve as mentor (homeroom) teacher for a small group of middle school students

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Experience with differentiated instruction to serve all students in a classroom

• Effective skills in creating positive relationships with students and their families

• Strong interpersonal, collaborative and organizational skills

• Willingness and ability to act as an outstanding personal witness to the Catholic faith

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree

• Native or near-native fluency in Spanish

• Valid SD Teaching certificate or ability to obtain

• Knowledge of the culture, history and practices of Spanish-speaking communities
