Athletic Director

Position Overview

The Athletic Director reports to and is directly responsible to the Head of School. The Athletic Director is responsible for providing the overall leadership and coordination among the various sports to facilitate programs that provide students with worthwhile learning experiences. The Athletic Director assumes the leadership role which would incorporate, but not exclusively, the Mission of Marian Central, accountability, budgeting, evaluation, staffing and supervision.

Responsibilities

• Serves the Head of School, parents, coaches and students as interpreter of all rules of the IHSA and works as liaison with the IHSA office.
• Serves as the Head of School’s representatives to the IHSA and at all conference meetings.
• Administers all interscholastic policies and procedures and works within the confines of the constitution and by-laws of the IHSA and the conference of which we are a member.
• Supports the school athletic program policies and ensures compliance within the Athletic and Student Parent Handbook.
• Recruits, develops job descriptions, hires, supervises and evaluates all head coaches.
• Prepares and coordinates coaches meetings and coordinates beginning and end of season meetings with coaches.
• Ensures head coaches properly supervise and evaluate their assistant coaches.
• Clearly articulates expectations for all coaches.
• Assigns, supervises and evaluates the duties of the Athletic Director Assistant and the Athletic Trainer.
• Develops training and orientation programs for all coaches to ensure their competency and teaching of the principles and values that correspond to our vision/mission.
• Prepares, submits, analyzes and oversees the athletic budget.
• Schedules all contests, working with the coaches.
• Attends home contests and as many away meets and events as possible to provide supervision as necessary.
• Oversees the weight room.
• Oversees the athletic training room and supervises trainers provided by an outside contractor.
• Oversees the practices and competition schedules for all athletic programs.
• Oversees and maintains the athletic website.
• Schedules transportation, with coaches, for all athletic events.
• Coordinates dates for Deanery school’s tournaments and clinics, hosted by Marian Central Catholic High School.
• Coordinates all Marian Central summer camps with current and prospective students.
• Coordinates all award events and provides assistance to all head coaches in recognizing their programs and athletes.
• Recommends maintenance and repairs of athletic facilities.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Qualifications

• Most importantly, the candidate is expected to adhere to all principles and tenets of the Catholic faith, to maintain a lifestyle that is in full accord with Church teachings and to promote the best interest of his or her student-athletes and the Roman Catholic Church.
• Working knowledge of IHSA bylaws, sanctions and calendar.
• Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in education.
• Experience as an Assistant Athletic Director or Athletic Director
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated skills in facilitation, problem solving and conflict management
• Effective planning, organization, motivation, management, supervision and evaluation skills
• Commitment to shared decision making and a spirit of collaboration.
