Jackson Catholic Schools is a system of four schools, under the leadership of the Bishop of the Diocese of Lansing, Michigan, through the guidance of the diocesan Superintendent of Catholic Schools. There are three parochial elementary schools: Queen of the Miraculous Medal, St. John the Evangelist, and St. Mary Star of the Sea. All three are grades pre-K-6. In addition, there is a Diocesan school, Lumen Christi Catholic School, grades 7-12. The current student population of Jackson Catholic Schools is approximately 1,000 students.
In an effort to further move towards our vision of transforming students’ lives and the Jackson community through Catholic education, Jackson Catholic Schools is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of President. The candidate will serve as the President of Lumen Christi Catholic School and the Executive Director of Jackson Catholic Schools. Jackson Catholic Schools was officially recognized as a system by the Bishop of Lansing in 2020. The ideal candidate will have the vision and ability to sustain and build on the momentum achieved through the dedication of the current administrative team and the governing boards.
JOB SUMMARY:
The President of Lumen Christi Catholic School will have the general charge and control of all Lumen Christi Catholic School’s personnel, finances, academics, advancement and fund raising, recruitment and admissions, business affairs, external affairs and community relations, and school related facilities. Serving as the Executive Director of JCS, his/her primary role will be to provide leadership of the Jackson Catholic Schools in order to achieve the fullest possible attainment of the mission of Jackson Catholic Schools. As such, the Executive Director will work collaboratively with the pastors and principals of the parochial schools to fulfil the mission of their respective schools.
- The President/Executive Director is a strong, faithful, practicing Catholic, in both word and deed, who serves the Jackson Catholic Schools in a professional manner and acts in accordance with Catholic doctrine and moral teachings.
- The President/Executive Director serves as the canonical administrator of Jackson Catholic Schools and Lumen Christi Catholic School (both public juridic persons) according to the norms of Church Law, subject to the diocesan laws and the directives of the Bishop and the Superintendent.
- The President/Executive Director promotes the good reputation and values of the school system in acting as the primary liaison between the Board of Governors, Board of Trustees, and the Diocese of Lansing.
- Working collaboratively with the Superintendent of the Schools for the Diocese of Lansing, local pastors, school principals, and the administrative staff, the President/Executive Director ensures that Catholic values permeate the entire curriculum and school culture in alignment with the mission.
LEADERSHIP ATTRIBUTES AND COMPETENCIES:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. An emphasis in business, finance, education administration, or public administration is helpful. Master’s degree preferred.
- Proven leadership experience in profit or nonprofit agency operations, management and supervision, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Possesses the ability to be a strategic visionary who models and gives witness to the mission.
- Prides oneself on servant leadership. No task is too small to participate.
- Ability to build teams and be an effective team member. Leads and empowers teams to develop solutions in deadline-driven situations.
- Effective interpersonal skills and personal effectiveness in dealing with people in difficult situations.
- Strong communication skills in speaking, listening and processing, and writing.
- Thrives leading in a dynamic, complex environment.
- Experience and/or knowledge of major gift, capital campaign and planned giving approaches and techniques; proven experience identifying, cultivating, and soliciting high-level donors or investors; proven experience developing strategic external alliances with partners and prospective donors/investors.
- Awareness of the best practices in Catholic education including the National Catholic Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Elementary and Secondary Schools.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the Jackson Catholic Schools and Diocese of Lansing governance structures.
- Experience with Catholic schools preferred.
