General Position Summary
Promotes fellowship, engagement, and connectedness among all members of the St. Philip parish family through the planning and execution of events, coordination of volunteers, community outreach, and support of parish stewardship initiatives. This role fosters a welcoming and vibrant parish environment for all—from newly registered families to long‑time parishioners—while strengthening participation in parish life and deepening the parish’s presence in the wider community.
Principal Accountabilities
Event Planning & Family Life Programming
- Help to plan and execute major annual parish‑wide events, including:
- St. Philip Feast Day & Crawfish Boil (Spring)
- St. Philip Festival (Fall)
- Develop, plan, and promote smaller, family‑centered events aligned with the liturgical calendar and parish needs.
- Manage event logistics including timelines, setup, décor, themes, and execution.
- Oversee vendor relationships, purchasing, sourcing, negotiating, ordering, and ensuring timely delivery of supplies and services.
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Coordinate ongoing parish‑wide service projects such as the monthly lunch program, Mission Day, and Neighbor Days.
- Serve as the staff lead for the annual Giving Tree Program, coordinating volunteers and collaborating with Catholic Charities, St. Vincent de Paul, other area charities, and parishioners in need.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners and organizations.
- Monitor partnerships to ensure alignment with Catholic teachings and the parish mission.
- Strategically plan and execute one‑time and ongoing community service opportunities that encourage parish-wide participation.
Ministry Coordination & Liaison Responsibilities
- Serve as staff liaison to parish service ministries, including but not limited to:
- St. Vincent de Paul
- Haitian Pilgrims
- Christ Child Society
- Women of St. Philip
- Men’s Cave
- St. Rita Catholic School
- Support ministry collaboration, communication, and alignment with parish priorities.
- Assist ministries in promoting service opportunities and strengthening parish involvement.
Volunteer Coordination & Engagement
- Recruit, promote, train, and coordinate volunteers for parish events, ministries, and service initiatives.
- Develop and implement a strategic volunteer recruitment and retention plan for the parish.
- Supervise and support volunteers to ensure successful event and ministry execution.
- Plan and host an annual Volunteer Appreciation Event to recognize contributions and strengthen engagement.
Stewardship & Parish Support
- Collaborate with the Director of Development and Stewardship to support hospitality and community‑building initiatives.
- Coordinate with the Stewardship Committee to promote involvement and participation opportunities across the parish.
Communications & Digital Presence
- Manage and update the Community Engagement section of the parish website.
- Oversee and maintain Special Projects Flocknote communications.
- Promote events, programs, and volunteer opportunities through parish communication channels.
Other Duties
- Carry out additional projects, initiatives, and responsibilities as assigned.
Typical Decisions and Recommendations
- Select event themes, vendors, and purchasing options.
- Determine volunteer staffing needs and assignments.
- Recommend new programs, service opportunities, and engagement strategies.
- Identify opportunities to improve volunteer participation and parish life engagement.
Supervision Given and/or Received
- Supervises: Parish event volunteers and ministry volunteers (as applicable).
- Reports to / Works closely with: Director of Development and Stewardship
- Collaborates with: Parish staff, ministry leaders, volunteers, vendors, and community partners
