General Summary of the Position
The Associate Superintendent supports the Superintendent in the day- to-day oversight of the Catholic schools assigned to this position. The position primarily aids schools by supporting academic excellence, institutional advancement, enrollment growth, strategic planning, financial planning, facilities maintenance and enhancements, and school safety and security. A primary function of the Associate Superintendent is to support pastors and principals to ensure site-level program effectiveness and strong Catholic Identity.

The Associate Superintendent reports to the Superintendent, and collaborates with diocesan Human Resources, Business Office, Communications, Development, and Safety and Emergency Management Offices to identify best practices. This role strengthens the vitality and viability of Catholic schools, ensuring they remain accessible, secure, and mission aligned.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

Mission-Driven Sustainability and School Vitality

– Support strategic plans to sustain and strengthen schools, particularly those in communities facing enrollment, financial, or demographic challenges.
– Collaborate with pastors, principals, and diocesan offices to assess school viability, optimize resources, and identify pathways for growth or renewal.
– Support school leaders in creating sustainable business models, diversifying revenue streams, and enhancing enrollment management.
– Partner with the Development Office (Pastoral Center) to cultivate philanthropic support and grant opportunities for schools most in need.


Promoting Equity, Access, and Belonging

– Champion the mission of Catholic education as a ministry of evangelization and service to all families, especially those historically underrepresented or economically disadvantaged.
– Support initiatives that promote inclusion, belonging, and respect for the dignity of every person, in harmony with Catholic identity and teaching.
– Collaborate with pastors and principals to remove barriers to Catholic education and strengthen outreach to diverse communities, in collaboration with the CSO ESA Liaison.
– Provide leadership formation and professional development as needed for administrators and faculty.


School Safety and Security

– Oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive safety and security plans for all diocesan schools.
– Collaborate with diocesan risk management, local law enforcement, and facilities personnel to ensure safe and welcoming learning environments.
– Coordinate training in emergency preparedness, crisis response, and threat assessment for school leaders and staff.
– Support the creation of trauma-informed and compassionate response protocols consistent with Catholic values.


Leadership Formation and Support

– Provide mentorship and consultation to principals, especially those serving in high-need communities.
– Collaborate with the Superintendent and Office of Catholic Schools leadership team to strengthen faith formation, academic excellence, and operational vitality across the system.
– Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and shared mission among pastors, principals, and diocesan offices.


Data-Informed Planning and Accountability

– Collaborate with site administrators on utilizing data to drive effective instruction, ensuring all students have access to curriculum and scaffolding, as needed.
– Partner with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction on site visits, professional development, and long-range academic planning.
– Use data to monitor enrollment, finances, and community demographics to inform sustainable planning.
– Evaluate the impact of initiatives related to sustainability, equity, and safety, providing regular updates to the Superintendent and advisory boards.
– Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for diocesan leadership and other stakeholders.


Human Resources

– Partners and collaborates with Superintendent of Schools and Diocesan HR function, on all HR matters, policies, programs, hotlines etc., pertaining to Catholic Schools assigned to this position.

– Support site administrators and Pastors in a collaborative manner on school personnel issues.


Additional Duties

– Makes regular reports of progress and activities to the Superintendent of Catholic Schools.

– Assists the Superintendent of Catholic Schools in the implementation of the strategic plan and synodal goals.

– Regularly visits schools and classrooms to gain first-hand knowledge of existing programs and the unique circumstances that impact the operation of the institution.

– Completes any other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent of Catholic Schools.


Ministerial Responsibilities

  • Exercise leadership grounded in Catholic principles, guiding educational policies, practices and religious instruction consistent with Diocesan policy and Church teachings.
  • Ensure that all schools under supervision maintain and promote Catholic identity in curriculum, culture, and operations.
  • Provide faith formation and professional formation for principals and teachers.
  • Regularly consult with diocesan leadership, pastors, and school leadership to align school initiatives, academic programs, and extracurricular activities with the Church’s mission.
  • Employment is contingent upon adherence to Catholic moral and ethical standards, including modeling a lifestyle consistent with Church teachings.

Position Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The Associate Superintendent must be a dynamic leader with the following demonstrated abilities:

  • Mission-centered and faith-driven leadership, articulating the vision of Catholic Schools and mobilizing the forces necessary to enhance the schools.
  • Strategic and systems-level thinking
  • Financial acumen and stewardship
  • Exercises good judgment and respect in dealing with conflict resolution, utilizing collaborative problem-solving
  • Shows inclusive educational leadership by demonstrating integrity, honesty, directness, flexibility, humility and a sense of humor.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, planning, records management, research, and general administration.
  • Understands and supports the purpose, philosophy and goals of Catholic education as taught by the Catholic Church.
  • Demonstrates a command of research and actively reviews current research and trends.
  • Provides leadership with crisis management and safety planning
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Operates standard office equipment.

Education and Experience:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in educational leadership
  • Ten (10) years teaching and administrative experiences
  • Experience in Catholic Schools

Special Requirements:
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing, required.
