Position Summary

The Full-Time Custodian takes pride in creating clean, safe, and welcoming spaces where parishioners, students, staff, and visitors can worship, learn, and grow in faith. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, this position is responsible for the cleaning, maintenance, and care of the parish's buildings and grounds. The Custodian plays an essential role in maintaining a safe, attractive, and functional environment throughout our church, school, and campus.

Essential Responsibilities

• Perform assigned custodial duties throughout the church, school, and all parish facilities.
• Assist the Director of Facilities with general maintenance and repair projects.
• Assist with room setup and teardown for parish events, meetings, and special functions.
• Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, entrances, and other designated areas as needed.
• Move furniture, equipment, tables, and chairs for parish activities.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and facility needs.
• Complete light maintenance and repairs involving HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and painting as needed.
• Maintain the appearance of parish grounds through landscaping assistance, litter removal, and seasonal maintenance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor or Director of Facilities.

Physical Requirements

• Lift & Carry: Safely lift and move up to 80 pounds occasionally and climb ladders while carrying up to 40 pounds.
• Mobility: Bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs, and comfortably navigate confined mechanical spaces.
• Environment: Work indoors and outdoors in all seasonal weather conditions, including snow removal and grounds maintenance.
• Logistics: Move furniture, tables, chairs, and equipment to support parish events and activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One to three years of custodial, janitorial, maintenance, or facilities experience preferred.
• Flexible availability for on-call weekends.
• Must successfully complete a background check and participate in the Diocese of Cleveland's VIRTUS program.

Compensation

$19.00–$22.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
