Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc. is one of California’s largest human services providers. Our San Pedro Region provides food, shelter, utilities, case management, and transportation assistance to homeless and low-income households. The Region operates three community centers, including two food pantries and a family shelter that serves pregnant women, individuals with disabilities, and elderly persons experiencing homelessness.
Position Summary
The Group Worker II is responsible for supervising daily shelter operations by directing shelter staff (Group Worker I) at the Elizabeth Ann Seton Residence. The ideal candidate will be professional, reliable, and thrive in a fast-paced environment while effectively handling multiple tasks. Strong writing, computer, and interpersonal skills are essential.
Consistent attendance and punctuality are critical to this role; candidates with patterns of tardiness or call-outs will not be considered. The position requires a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holiday availability.
Essential Responsibilities
- Supervise shelter staff and assign daily responsibilities.
- Coordinate activity schedules for clients participating in shelter programs.
- Provide client oversight in areas such as crisis intervention, intakes, completion of employment and housing applications, and housing search assistance.
- Deliver crisis intervention and maintain sensitivity to clients’ cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Step in to perform Resident Attendant duties as needed to ensure shelter operations run smoothly.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of at least two years of college required; Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field preferred.
- One to three years of related experience, including experience in a lead or supervisory role.
- Prior experience working with homeless populations.
- Demonstrated skill in de-escalation and conflict resolution.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to maintain accurate documentation.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and build effective working relationships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; computer proficiency required.
- Must demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality. Repeated late arrivals or excessive absences will disqualify candidates from consideration.
