Position Summary:
The Women’s Specialty Advocate provides trauma-informed, gender-responsive support and advocacy for women engaged in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. This role focuses on addressing the unique needs of women, including those who are pregnant, parenting, or involved with child welfare systems. The advocate ensures access to comprehensive services that support recovery, family reunification, and long-term wellness.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct advocacy and case management services to women enrolled in SUD treatment programs.
  • Transport clients to appointments
  • Support clients in navigating systems such as child welfare, housing, healthcare, and legal services.
  • Facilitate access to gender-specific services including parenting support, trauma counseling, and childcare.
  • Collaborate with treatment teams to develop individualized recovery plans that reflect the client’s goals and needs.
  • Conduct outreach and engagement with women who are pregnant or parenting to prioritize timely access to treatment.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and community collaborations.
  • Promote culturally competent and trauma-informed care practices.

Qualifications:
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or related field (Bachelor’s preferred).
  • 2 years’ experience working with women in behavioral health or SUD settings.
  • Knowledge of Michigan’s Women’s Specialty Services (WSS) and relevant state policies
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and harm reduction principles.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and advocacy skills.
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Peer Recovery Mentor or similar credential.
  • Experience working with pregnant or parenting women.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages) a plus!
