Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi, Inc. and Mother Teresa Shelter, Inc. is seeking to hire a Director of Mission Advancement. The Director of Mission Advancement is a leadership position responsible for advancing the mission of Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi and Mother Teresa Shelter through fundraising strategy, donor engagement, and community relationships.

This role leads all development efforts — including major gifts, annual appeals, planned giving, grants, campaigns, and events — while providing strategic direction for mission-centered messaging across social media platforms. The Director of Mission Advancement ensures all donor engagement, public-facing outreach, and fundraising communications authentically reflect Catholic Social Teaching, Gospel values, and the agencies’ commitment to serving the poor and vulnerable.

Working closely with the Executive Director, Director of Marketing & Communications, leadership team, and board, this position plays a critical role in sustaining and growing the agencies’ charitable works through strong donor relationships, effective stewardship, and community engagement.

Ministerial Character:
The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising & Development Leadership

  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive development plan that includes annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, grants, special events, and campaigns.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual, corporate, foundation, and parish donors.
  • Maintain a portfolio of key donors and prospects and conduct personal outreach and face-to-face meetings.
  • Support the Executive Director and board members in donor cultivation and solicitation efforts.
  • Establish and manage donor recognition and stewardship programs that communicate impact and foster long-term relationships.
  • Oversee accurate gift processing, acknowledgments, reporting, and donor records within the donor management system.

Grant Development & Management

  • Identify grant opportunities aligned with agency programs and strategic priorities.
  • Write, submit, and manage grant proposals, reports, and required documentation.
  • Coordinate grant follow-up, reporting deadlines, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with program leadership and finance staff to gather data, outcomes, and budgets for grant applications and reports.
  • Maintain relationships with grantors and funding partners to support long-term funding sustainability.
  • Maintain a grants calendar to ensure timely submissions and reporting deadlines.

Communications & Mission Storytelling

  • Provide strategic direction to the Social Media, Photography & Videography Coordinator for mission-centered communications that support fundraising and donor engagement, in collaboration with the Director of Marketing & Communications.
  • Serve as a point of contact for media inquiries and interviews related to development initiatives, donor engagement, and agency impact, coordinating closely with leadership and marketing/communications staff.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Marketing & Communications, generate and edit email campaigns and print materials.
  • In collaboration with the Social Media, Photography & Videography Coordinator, create compelling storytelling campaigns, including impact stories, video testimonials, donor thank-you messages, and event highlights.
  • Collaborate with program leadership to identify stories, outcomes, and impact data that support donor engagement.
  • Assist with flyers and other communication needs.
  • Produce an internal newsletter to support staff engagement, morale, and retention.

(Note: Overall communications strategy, branding, platform management remain under the Director of Marketing & Communications.)

Events, Campaigns & Community Engagement

  • Plan and execute fundraising events, donor appreciation activities, and campaign launches.
  • Provide leadership for capital campaigns or special initiatives as needed.
  • Prepare event budgets, revenue tracking, and post-event reports.
  • Build relationships with community foundations, partner organizations, parishes, and civic leaders.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance agency visibility and donor engagement through strategic outreach.

Administration & Leadership

  • Prepare development-related reports, projections, and budget input as requested.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations related to fundraising and data privacy.
  • Responsible for meeting benchmarks and other performance measures; addressing areas of concern in a timely and productive manner. 
  • Serve as a liaison with donor groups and community partners.
  • Attend staff meetings, management meetings, professional trainings, and agency events as required.
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies, including training, performance management, and accountability.
  • Safeguard all confidential and protected information in accordance with agency policy and law.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the agencies’ missions.

Additional Requirements

Must support and adhere to the moral teachings of the Catholic Church, i.e., must not teach, advocate, or in any way encourage beliefs or behaviors that are contrary to Catholic social doctrine.

Position requires ability to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends as required.  Candidate must possess a valid driver's license and successfully pass a criminal background check.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Philanthropy, Fund Development, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of five years of experience in philanthropy, fund development, donor relations, communications, or community engagement, preferably within a nonprofit, human services, or faith-based organization.

  • Valid Texas driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the Diocese of Corpus Christi

Additional Requirements:

Salary : $65,000 - $75,000
