Primary Office: Fredericksburg MRS
Hours per Week: 40 Hours non-exempt.
Staff Supervisor: Associate Director, Community Engagement & Senior Services

The Community Engagement Specialist (CES) works externally with businesses, nonprofit organizations, and faith communities to build partnerships that support MRS programs and refugee clients. This temporary position focuses on expanding employer and training partnerships, strengthening volunteer and community engagement systems, coordinating donation drives with partner organizations, and supporting grant-driven community engagement activities. This role is contingent on grant funding.
Position Responsibilities:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard. Specific vision requirements due to computer work and driving a motor vehicle. Light to moderate lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.

The Community Engagement Specialist (CES) works externally with businesses, nonprofit organizations, and faith communities to build partnerships that support MRS programs and refugee clients. This temporary position focuses on expanding employer and training partnerships, strengthening volunteer and community engagement systems, coordinating donation drives with partner organizations, and supporting grant-driven community engagement activities. This role is contingent on grant funding.
Position Responsibilities:
- Conducts outreach to the business community to identify job development, training, internship, and hiring opportunities for refugee clients
- Develops and maintains partnerships with employers, training providers, and workforce development organizations to support client outcomes
- Provides targeted outreach and partnership development to support employment opportunities for clients
- Provides outreach, partnership coordination, and documentation support for the POWIR grant
- In alignment with the Office of Volunteers supports recruitment, onboarding, and coordination of volunteers and interns for POWIR-supported activities
- Plans and supports donation drives and in-kind resource collection in partnership with parishes, businesses, and civic organizations
- Maintains accurate databases of community partners, volunteers, and outreach activities; assists with grant and program reporting inputs
- Develops and distributes outreach materials and communications to Catholic parishes and community partners - supports creation of outreach materials and social media content as directed
- Manages outreach events, including planning, setup, execution, troubleshooting, and breakdown, ensuring compliance with agency safety guidelines
- Consults with Community Engagement staff and program teams to coordinate volunteer-supported activities and partner engagement
- Willingness to uphold Catholic social teaching
- Performs additional job-related duties as assigned
- Ability to learn new tasks and procedures, comply with processes, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow.
- Knowledge of the refugee resettlement process locally and nationally; Experience in community engagement, partnership development, workforce development, or nonprofit services
- Effective writing, presentation, advocacy, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, and other relevant software
- Ability to plan, execute, and troubleshoot outreach and partnership events
- Effective interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills
- Flexible to work some evenings and weekends
- Associate degree with 3-5 years’ experience required or bachelor’s degree in social services field preferred
- Experience in workforce development, education, case management, or human services
- Must possess a valid US driver’s license, have a good driving record (including 3 positive points on the VA Motor Vehicle Record), and have at least three years of US driving experience. Willing to drive clients.
