The Employment Specialist / Case Manager works cooperatively with the E/CBDS Manager, Employment and CBDS staff to create and enhance employment opportunities/volunteer sites. This position is responsible for providing ongoing supervision and support to adults with developmental disabilities on their quest for gainful employment for competitive and/or group supported employment. These supports include training with job readiness skills, resume writing, application processes and interviews. Responsibilities include cold calls to potential employers, documenting all contacts and follow-up activity, monthly evaluations, training as needed, and assistance with transportation or in other areas as needed for successful placement.
Essential Duties
- Provide assistance with training, job duties, roles and responsibilities for individuals on job sites
- Offer training and guidance on writing resumes, filling out job applications, interviewing skills and more in this area as needed
- Work with individuals and staff to determine job interests and work-related goals
- Work with the individuals, families, providers, DDS service coordinators and other team members to determine and secure the supports necessary for the person to work successfully in a job of their choice
- Assure individuals have the work materials necessary to perform job responsibilities
- Provide safe transportation to work location, if necessary, with personal or agency vehicle
- Support individuals at the work site to learn and perform their job successfully
- Support individuals to learn the social, interpersonal, and behavioral skills necessary for successful employment
- Support individuals to develop and maintain relationships, to use community resources and to become an involved member of the community
- Oversee the completion of work site evaluations, fire drills and other related tasks as needed
- Complete incident sheets, seizure reports, medical incidents, progress notes and other necessary documentation
- Participate in regular staff meetings, case management meetings, in-service training and other staff development
- Comply with all work and volunteer site expectations, including application process requirements, the completion of a CORI, and all other associated tasks
- Assist employers to facilitate job performance evaluations with them on a regular basis
- Conduct regular visits to the employers and evaluate areas of success and areas of growth
- Work with employers and individuals to resolve conflicts/problems effectively and efficiently when necessary
- Ability to flex schedule when required
- Attend any Mercy Centre functions appropriate to the role
- Attend job fairs with program participants seeking employment opportunities
- Professionally represent Mercy Centre and Catholic Charities with host companies, acting as a liaison between the program and community employment sites
- Develop and maintain relationships with community and business employer
- Maintain contact with local businesses to obtain additional community work sites
- Comply with mandated reporting to the Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC) in accordance with DDS and Mass Health Regulations
- Track hourly wage earnings as least twice per year for individuals who are competitively employed
- Ensure all individuals working competitively earn at least the minimum hourly wage
- Follow all safety protocols and contribute to a culture of safety through awareness, reporting, and safe work practices.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
Knowledge/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in human services, business or related field and at least two years’ experience in human services and or 5 years of related experience.
- Basic Computer Skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of the community with business community relationships preferred
Skills/Abilities
- Ability to present oneself professionally and pragmatically to program participants, families, guardians, the business community and representatives from other agencies
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently and to communicate effectively as it relates to the job
- Ability to interact positively with program and agency staff
- Ability to transport program participants in personal vehicle, if necessary
- Must be able to be consistent in implementing daily routine
- Ability to work independently for long periods of time and under the guidance of a supervisor or designee
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Must be able to communicate clearly
- Normal range of vision, hearing and mobility (with or without correction)
- Must demonstrate ability to work effectively within emotionally demanding situations
- Must be able to observe potentially distressing behaviors, interactions between clients and relay/document those observations to appropriate staff
- Able to understand and carry out directions
- Must participate in any training required for improved job performance and learning/professional development as needed
- Walking and climbing are required for entry and mobility throughout all Catholic Charities Worcester County offices.
