The Adult Education and Workforce Development Division of Catholic Charities of Boston offers comprehensive, high-quality educational services to advance and accelerate the academic achievement of adult immigrant learners who face significant barriers in their search of viable career pathways and self-sufficiency. The Adult Education Centers offer multiple levels of ESOL instruction from beginning to advanced levels of language proficiency, the Healthcare

Bridge ESOL Program, ESOL for Human Services, college and career readiness programming, Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide Training Programs, IT Training, flexible schedules and distance learning options.

The Career Coach works with adults who are learning the English language skills necessary for living and working in the community or participating in workforce development training in healthcare or IT. The Career Coach assists coordinators and the program director by helping students close their environmental barriers. Career Coach works one-to-one with students by creating an individualized advising plan with them and helping them to apply for any assistance students might need, e.g., applying to housing, gas assistance, helping them with resumes, applying for jobs, preparing for interviews, applying to college, and other supports as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Develops employment and educational goal plans, tracks progress, and creates an individual advising plan for each student.
  • Helps students to find jobs and write resumes.
  • Collects and tracks student data, completes forms, and produces reports.
  • Participates in staff professional development planning and implementation.
  • Facilitates student access to other educational and skills training programs and/or higher educational programs, following their requirements and other information.
  • Provides information to students about other types of community programs to help resolve personal issues.
  • Participate in staff development.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings.
  • Maintain students' records in agency reporting tools.
  • Implement strategics for obtaining student feedback and incorporate data in new course offerings and staff professional development.
  • Comply with funder required policies and regulations.
  • Attend all internal and external meetings and trainings.
  • Local travel as required.
  • Work is performed in an office or classroom environment with the use of office equipment. May require lifting up to 10 lbs. and prolonged periods of sitting and standing.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's or associate degree or 5 years of experience delivering advising or coaching service and demonstrated professional skills.
  • A minimum of I year of teaching experience in a similar environment preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of educational theory and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and compassionately in a culturally competent manner, with students of a wide variety of backgrounds, skill levels, race, and ethnicity with varying level of English language skills.
  • Professional disposition and acumen to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, employers and community resources.
  • Ability to work as part of a team partnering with colleagues to provide the optimum organization service to participants.
  • Strong computer and organizational skills required for program data reporting. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Zoom and other teaching/meeting platforms.

The base pay range reflects what Catholic Charities reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this role at the time of posting and may be modified from time to time. Actual compensation in this range may be determined based on other factors, including but not limited to work experience, education and specialty training.

Provides occasional classroom coverage in the event of instructor absence to ensure continuity of program operations. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director or Program Manager to support program operations and student success. WORK SCHEDULE This is a full-time position totaling 37.5 hours per week. The regular schedule for this position is as follows:

  • Tuesday: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM
  • Wednesday: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Thursday: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM
  • Friday: 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM Schedule may be adjusted as needed to support program activities, student services, and operational requirements.
