The Safe and Stable Group Facilitator is responsible for delivering the 5 Protective Factors in group sessions, for families, to build resilience and prevent child abuse. The use of a variety of strategies to encourage participation, guide discussions, and ensure a positive and safe environment are key to this position. The job involves planning, delivering, and evaluating group activities, as well as providing emotional support and resources to participants. Responsible for group sessions held in Boston and Lowell locations. The Group Facilitator must maintain continual communication with the local Department of Children and Families (DCF) office. 

RESPONSIBILITES

  • Facilitate group sessions.
  • Plan, organize, and lead group activities, discussions, and interventions focused on the five protective factors (e.g., nurturing relationships, promoting knowledge of parenting and child development, providing family support, enabling positive community relations, and supporting material needs). 
  • Encourage participation and engagement.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, encourage all participants to share their experiences, and facilitate productive dialogue. 
  • Provide emotional support and resources.
  • Offer empathy, understanding, and resources to participants as they navigate challenging situations, using evidence-based practices and therapeutic approaches. 
  • Manage conflict and maintain a positive environment.
  • Resolve conflicts constructively, ensure a respectful and safe space for all participants, and create a positive atmosphere where participants feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and experiences. 
  • Evaluate and monitor groups.
  • Regularly assess group needs, monitor progress, and make adjustments to group interventions as needed. Report progress of group attendees following each group. Report group content to appropriate DCF office.
  • Collaborate with other professionals and volunteers.
  • Work effectively with other members of the team, volunteers, and community partners to support the program's goals. 
  • Work is performed in person in an office setting.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Attendance at meetings and trainings.
  • Local travel as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., social work, psychology, counseling) is preferred with 3 years working with families. Certifications or training in group facilitation, trauma-informed practices, or specific interventions related to child abuse prevention preferred.
  • Knowledge of the five protective factors.
  • A thorough understanding of how these factors contribute to child resilience and prevention of child maltreatment. 
  • Experience in group facilitation and counseling.
  • Proven ability to lead and facilitate group sessions, using various techniques to encourage participation and engagement. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with participants, communicate effectively, and create a supportive and safe environment. 
  • Empathy and compassion.
  • The ability to understand and connect with the experiences of participants, especially those who have experienced trauma or adversity. 
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage group sessions efficiently and effectively. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team:
  • Comfortable taking initiative, managing tasks independently, and collaborating effectively with others. 
  • Fluency in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Experience and proven competency with Microsoft Office platform.
  • Travel is required
  • Valid license and reliable transportation needed
