Catawba County Finance is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Accounting Specialist III to join our team. - Process payments and fulfill obligations to vendors for goods and services provided to the County, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies and procedures
- Audit invoices submitted by departments, verify account information, and process weekly check runs (checks, ACH, and EFT)
- Maintain vendor records in the ERP system, ensuring documentation is accurate and compliant with IRS and state requirements
- Monitor outstanding checks and purchase order balances; assist departments in resolving discrepancies and correcting posting errors
- Verify sales and use tax calculations, and prepare and file monthly Sales & Use Tax reports
- Process and reconcile monthly reports for contractors’ taxes, school districts, and procurement card transactions
- Prepare and process annual 1099s and escheats reports
- Serve as a resource for vendors, employees, and departments regarding payments and account status
- Support other functions within the Finance Department as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting and 1 year of accounting or bookkeeping experience; OR
- Associate's degree in Business Administration or Accounting and 3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience; OR
- High school diploma or GED equivalent and 5 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles with emphasis on Accounts Payable
- Understanding of IRS and state requirements for new vendors, sales and use tax, and escheats
- Proficiency in ERP systems, Excel, and Word
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and customer service skills
- High level of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail
- This is considered sedentary work, which requires sitting most of the time and the ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
