Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Technician works directly under the Director of Nursing per the policies and objectives of the center such that CLC provides a safe, efficient, and compliant environment for patients, staff and surgeons. The primary purpose of the Sterile Processing Technician is to collect, clean, decontaminate, disinfect and/or sterilize surgical instruments according to established standards and procedures to ensure sterile and functioning supply of materials and equipment. The Sterile Processing Technician understands microbiology and infection control standards. All Cataract and Laser Center staff are to maintain a positive and professional attitude and collaborate as a team with both colleagues and management to uphold a supportive and respectful atmosphere for both patients and staff.
Responsibilities
- Clean, decontaminate, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment according to established protocols.
- Perform inventory management to ensure adequate stock levels of sterile supplies and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes and equipment maintenance.
- Utilize aseptic techniques to prevent contamination during the handling of sterile items.
- Collaborate with healthcare staff to understand specific sterilization needs for various procedures.
- Stay updated on medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology knowledge relevant to the role.
- Conduct routine inspections of sterilization equipment to ensure proper functioning and compliance with safety standards.
