Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Ophthalmology Technician to join our dynamic Retinal and General Ophthalmology eye care team. Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for eye examinations by taking detailed medical histories, measuring vital signs, and performing initial intake assessments.
- Assist ophthalmologists during various diagnostic tests, including visual acuity, intraocular pressure measurements, and slit-lamp examinations.
- Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques and HIPAA regulations to ensure patient safety and confidentiality.
- Operate and troubleshoot optical equipment, EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic, and other medical software to accurately document patient information.
- Manage medical records efficiently, ensuring proper documentation of clinical findings, billing codes, and treatment plans.
- Support front desk duties including scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage, and managing patient flow within the clinic.
- Conduct retail sales of optical products such as glasses and contact lenses while applying retail math principles to ensure accurate transactions.
- Collaborate with team members to uphold high standards of patient care, clinic efficiency, and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Experience
- Proven experience as an ophthalmology technician or in a similar medical office setting with a focus on eye care or pediatrics preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmology procedures, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology necessary for accurate patient assessment.
- Hands-on experience with optical equipment, EMR systems (especially Epic), and medical coding/billing processes.
- Demonstrated ability to perform intake procedures, vital signs measurement, and patient care with professionalism and compassion.
- Familiarity with HIPAA compliance standards to maintain patient privacy at all times.
- Retail sales experience combined with retail math skills is advantageous for managing optical product transactions effectively.
