What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Engineer position at Catalyst Engineering?
Catalyst Engineering is looking for a hands on Electrical Engineer / Controls Engineer to design and build systems for robots and animatronic figures. You’ll work across electrical design, PCB layout, industrial controls, cable routing, sensors, power distribution, and programming for advanced robotic and themed entertainment systems.
This role blends engineering design with real world build work — perfect for an engineer who wants to both architect systems and wire them up, test them, and watch the robot come alive.
What You’ll Do
- Design electrical systems, wiring diagrams, schematics, and panel layouts
- Build industrial control panels with terminal blocks, breakers, fuses, power supplies, contactors, relays, and more
- Integrate servomotors, actuators, pneumatics, sensors, and I/O modules
- Perform cable routing and harness design for animatronics and robotics
- Develop control logic using PLC programming, microcontrollers and ShowForge
- Work with Python, vision systems, cameras, tracking software, and sensor fusion where applicable
- Assist with PCB design for custom sensor boards or interface circuits
- Support motion control, tuning, safety systems, and automated test rigs
- Participate in FAT/SAT testing, troubleshooting, and installation work
- Document wiring, labeling, bill of materials, and test procedures
- Collaborate across mechanical, software, and fabrication teams
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar
- Experience with PLC systems, industrial control hardware, and/or embedded systems
- Competency in Python, basic scripting, or automation logic
- Understanding of servomotor systems, sensors, power distribution, and industrial wiring
- Ability to build, test, troubleshoot, and iterate on real hardware
- Experience with PCB design tools is a plus
- Vision system or robotics experience a bonus
- Strong documentation and communication skills
- Positive, practical, team oriented attitude
