What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Engineer position at Catalyst ATX?
ABOUT CATALYST ATX
Catalyst ATX is a residential development and construction company based in Austin. We manufacture modular homes in a factory, transport them across Central Texas, and set them by crane on foundations. Development, construction, and delivery are all handled in-house, from land acquisition through permitting and final closeout.
We've been building since 2016, have delivered over $100M in projects, and have $10M in signed work for the next twelve months. We run a lean team, which means you'll work directly with company leadership from day one.
THE ROLE
This position is designed for a recent graduate who wants broad exposure early in their career. Rather than specializing in a single function, you'll support projects across estimating, procurement, permitting, compliance, and closeout with direct involvement in the logistics that make modular construction unique, including transportation, crane operations, and module installation.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Estimating
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and conceptual estimates for modular residential developments
- Solicit and level bids for sitework, foundations, utilities, crane services, modular transportation, concrete, landscaping, and facade packages
- Assist in developing project budgets and identifying value engineering opportunities
Procurement
- Prepare and issue purchase orders and subcontract agreements
- Coordinate modular transport logistics, crane scheduling, and module set activities
- Track long-lead items to keep materials ahead of the project schedule
- Build working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and transport partners
Project Administration & Compliance
- Manage RFIs, submittals, drawing revisions, and document control
- Coordinate permitting and assist with scheduling inspections
- Track certificates of insurance, W-9s, lien waivers, and subcontractor compliance documentation
Financial Support
- Track committed costs and procurement status
- Review invoices against work orders and prepare change order documentation
- Maintain project cost tracking logs in QuickBooks
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Real Estate Development, or a related field
- Strong Excel skills and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Experience with or willingness to learn, Bluebeam, QuickBooks, and other construction technology
- Self-motivated, organized, and reliable with follow-through
- Interest in growing into project management as the company grows
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- $70K–$85K base salary to start
- Bonus tied to project performance
- Certifications paid
- Gym membership
- Flex Fridays
- A defined path into project management — we promote from within
WHAT TO EXPECT
Construction moves quickly and some weeks run long. We're looking for someone who wants to learn the full scope of development and construction, takes ownership of their work, and is looking for a long-term fit not just a first job.
