Job Description:
JB Dental Lab, a leading dental laboratory in Tempe, Arizona, is seeking a skilled and motivated 3D Dental Printing Technician to join our innovative team. As a key member of our lab, you will be responsible for the resin 3D printing of various dental appliances, including night guards, dentures, crowns, and other dental prosthetics. Key Responsibilities:
3D Printing:
- Operate and maintain resin 3D printers and associated equipment, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting any technical issues
- Monitor the printing process and conduct quality checks to ensure the final products meet quality standards
- Perform and log essential maintenance and calibration tasks on printers (cleaning, lubricating rails, leveling, film changes, leveling, shrinkage calibration)
- Clean and maintain production area & equipment as needed
- Closely follow post-processing instructions for various resins to ensure parts are both cleaned and cured completely before sending cases out of department
- Know how to remove surface blemishes and support spurs on printed parts when needed
- Safely handle and dispose of resins and waste products associated with the production process according to SDS info and regulations
- Operate CAM/slicing software to prepare jobs for printers, including the ability to support, arrange, hollow, orient, and otherwise manipulate STL models in CAM/slicing software to ensure optimal printing
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with dental technicians, dentists, and other team members to refine designs and address any concerns.
- Inform the Printing Manager of supplies/equipment that need to be ordered
- Bring complicated/biocompatible cases to 3D Printing Manager for QC before or after production as appropriate
- Pick up case pans ready for 3D printing in a timely manner
- Inform the 3D Printing Manager and front desk staff when cases will be delayed
- Understand relevant dental/down & upstream production tasks to aid production
- Recognize common CAD issues and problems in STLs and work with the CAD team/3D Printing manager to resolve
- Coordinate with other departments to complete cases/requests as needed
- Assist the 3D Printing Manager with other department-relevant tasks at the Manager's discretion
Quality Assurance:
- Implement and maintain quality control processes to guarantee the production of high-quality dental appliances
- Track case production information by scanning cases and entering data into QMS systems
- Check STL files and print jobs for errors before starting production
- Know how to use measuring equipment (digital calipers, micrometer) and record accurate results
- Upload all print job log files to the web service designated by the 3D Printing Manager as jobs are completed for tracking and accountability
- Follow instructions on work tickets and Rx forms to ensure a quality product

- Familiarity with a variety of resin 3D printing technologies and materials.
- Strong attention to detail and precision in printing.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of dental anatomy and terminology is a plus.
- Technical troubleshooting skills for resin 3D printers and related equipment.
- Experience with CAM/Slicing software (ex: Chitubox, Lychee Slicer, etc) is a plus.
- Experience with 3D printing functional and dimensionally accurate parts is a plus.
- Some knowledge of CAD software and digital design concepts is a plus.
