The Engine Shop Trainee is responsible for learning and working under the direct mentorship of an assigned Senior Service Technician.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Requires general knowledge of diesel or gas engines, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic systems and components.
- Assist a Senior Technician in completing assigned jobs and task to meet flat rate times and re-do metric.
- Work safely and follow all WCAT safety policies and procedures.
- Assist a Senior Technician in completing related paperwork and access databases required to complete job (work order, parts order, JSA, DBS, SIMS, SIS web, STW) accurately and timely.
- Follow contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.
- Remove and install parts, disassemble and assemble components, and test and adjust assemblies with supervision from a Senior Shop Technician.
- Assist a Senior Service Technician in providing accurate quotes and pricing estimates to the customer.
- Ride train alongside a Senior Service Technician with all aspects of the task at hand daily.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- General knowledge of basic hand tools, air tools, precision measuring tools and instruments, laptops, diagnostic software and cranes and rigging equipment.
- Willingness to accept instruction and guidance from a Senior Service Technician.
- Pass administered Can Test and Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test Prior to acceptance for this position.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Team-oriented mentality.
- school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years. related experience and/or training.
- Successfully complete Work steps assessment.
- Ability to certify for operating a forklift and/or manlift.
- May be required to complete DOT physical.
- May require MSHA certification.
