Full-Time Vacancy (to be filled immediately)
- 40 Hours Weekly (currently 2nd shift *3:00 - 11:00 during school calendar & *7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. during summers)
- *hours may vary based upon need
- Potential for overtime work on weekends may be required as assigned by supervisor for special activities/events

Reports to: Director of Maintenance and Building Principals
Qualifications: To successfully perform this job an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or G. E. D. required.
- Experience in custodial/light maintenance work preferred; however, we will train individuals who have the desire to learn and improve skills
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals and hazardous materials safe-use and handling instructions
- Ability to write legible notes and basic computer skills to receive and answer e-mails in a timely manner
- Ability to speak in a clear and meaningful manner that is always appropriate for the school environment
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to apply basic mathematical knowledge including computation of percentages, rates, ratios, area, and volume
- Ability to read and interpret data from graphs and charts
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out and communicate instructions that are written, oral, or presented in graphic format
- Ability to logically address non-routine situations that may be encountered in the work environment, and utilize resources to effectively work through those situations to achieve the best possible outcome

- AHERA Awareness Training program completion required
- Computer training modules for safety training will be an ongoing requirement

- Must take direction well from immediate supervisor & building administrators
- Must work well with students, staff, and patrons and consistently set the quality example that Caston strives to portray to others

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to:
- stand and be on feet throughout the majority of the shift
- walk and be sufficiently mobile to travel to all areas of the school corporation’s buildings and grounds
- use hands to manipulate and handle objects, tools, or controls with precision
- reach with hands and arms
- climb and maintain balance while using a ladder, mechanical lift, or stairways
- stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl under furnishings or in tight places
- talk and hear to effectively use a radio communication system
- occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 100 pounds
- specific vision capabilities required include near, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception, and the capability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
- While performing the duties of this position the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, in high precarious places, and in wet or humid conditions
- Custodians may be exposed to fumes, air-borne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals requiring mandatory safety procedures
- Work environment can be deemed less than favorable environmental situations at times, however the majority of work is done in an indoor controlled climate
- The noise level in the work environment is less than moderate to moderate
Typical daily duties of a custodian include the following:
- Arriving on time daily, appropriately dressed for duties ( Caston provided uniform), and ready to start daily routine
- Promptly informing supervisor of any equipment failure, needed repairs, maintenance to building, or concerns noted during shift on a daily basis
- Providing daily documentation of duties accomplished and leaving noticeable evidence of a job well done in each area of assignment
- Cleaning, dusting, mopping, scrubbing and waxing resilient floors as needed to protect floor finish
- Dry mopping or wet mopping floors in rooms and hallways
- Cleaning and vacuuming carpeting
- Emptying wastebaskets and disposing of refuse in A-1 waste containers
- Stocking machines and/or dispensers
- Scrubbing and disinfecting shower rooms
- Changing incandescent, fluorescent, and LED light bulbs throughout the building
- Submitting requests for supplies to supervisor so that items needed are always available
- Cleaning and scrubbing walls, water fountains, sinks, bowls, and glass mirrors
- Installing pencil sharpeners and being accountable for additional minor repairs to building, equipment, and furniture
- Cleaning chairs, desktops, and tabletops in classrooms, cafeteria, and office areas
- Unlocking or securing doorways for events and securing building daily at end of shift
- Operating automatic floor cleaners/buffers, sweepers, and other equipment utilized by the custodial staff
- Cleaning and maintaining restroom areas to exceptional levels of cleanliness and freshness while remaining stocked with needed supplies
- Keeping custodial storage areas neat, well organized and free of combustible materials
- Cleaning glass windows both on the inside and outside as needed
- Being a help and support to those in the building assisting with events and activities when problems with the facility arise
- Other duties as assigned
