What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) position at Castleberry Independent School District?
Primary Purpose:
A Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a paraprofessional primarily responsible for direct implementation of treatment plans related to skill- acquisition and behavior reduction. RBTs also collect data and provide instructional support when needed. Provide student instructions and interventions under the direction of the classroom teacher and administration.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Associate’s degree, two years of study at an institution of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment (preferred)
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate (must be obtained on/before 30 days of hire)
- RBT licensure
- Crisis Prevention Intervention Trainer certification (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
- Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting and implementation
- Knowledge of behavior and social skill intervention techniques and methodology
- Ability to work with students with pervasive developmental disabilities
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Self-starter able to work without day to day supervision
- Ability to apply principles of Applied Behavior Analysis
- Ability to track student data and implement program changes as needed
Experience:
- Prior experience working with students with behavior disorders (preferred)

Instructional and Program Management:
- Collaborate with teachers to design and develop behavioral intervention plans (BIP) and provide support to instructional staff in implementing BIPs and classroom management strategies.
- Monitor the effectiveness of behavior intervention plans and recommend changes as needed.
- Model the management of student behavior and make recommendations regarding alternative discipline consequences, including intervening in crisis situations and assisting with physical restraints for students as necessary according to IEP.
- Conduct behavior observations and provide teacher feedback.
Other:
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required such as restraint documentation, FBA’s, behavior documentation, medicaid billing, and BIP implementation.
- Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education.
- Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty. Note: Bus duty includes supervising students on the bus during morning, afternoon, and/or field trip routes.
- Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
- Help manage the behavior of assigned students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.
- Must be present regularly in person.

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist non ambulatory students, and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment
Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours
