Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant supports the Controller and accounting team in maintaining accurate financial records across property-level and partnership entities. This role is responsible for day-to-day accounting tasks including general ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and financial reporting. The Senior Accountant works closely with internal teams and property managers to ensure timely and accurate financial data, supports investor distributions.
Location: Suffern, NY (Right off Route 287, close to Garden State Parkway and Route 17)
Schedule: Full-time, Hybrid - 2 Work-from-Home Fridays per month
Responsibilities:
General Accounting & Financial Reporting
1. Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of property and partnerships books and records for multiple in-house managed properties. Perform monthly and quarterly close for properties and ensure reporting is completed in a timely fashion.
2. Assist in maintaining consistent reporting across entities.
3. Record and reconcile balance sheet, mortgage, escrow, insurance, tax, AR/AP, and intercompany entries.
4. Process quarterly investor distributions, track member loans and capital calls.
5. Perform monthly bank reconciliations and update daily cash balances across multiple accounts.
6. Responsible for the processing of property level invoices which includes - analyzing and coding invoices, obtaining invoice approvals, resolving invoice discrepancies and assisting with data entry of invoices as needed.
7. Organize and maintain accounting files and documentation.
8. Ensure compliance with financial provisions of loan agreements, including interpretation and application of relevant provisions.
9. Maintain accounting records and communicate with third-party borrowers, servicers, and the asset management team on mortgage loans.
Cash Management
1. If applicable, monitor rent sweep accounts and ensure sufficient funds for mortgage payments.
2. Assist in coordinating transfers between partnership and property accounts.
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Perform additional duties assigned by direct supervisor and upper-level management.
2. Respond to ad-hoc requests from Finance and Asset Management.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate or property management.
• Familiarity with investment and property-level accounting.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies.
• Proficiency in Yardi and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Effective communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Professional handling of confidential financial information.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $95,000-$100,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
