The Castle Island Sales Representative is responsible for day-to-day execution of the Castle Island Brewing Co. sales strategy through distributor management, account level presence and execution of tasks in their assigned territory. The right candidate is expected to be self-motivated, own the success of their territory and drive that success daily. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports, and reports to the CEO/Owner. The ideal candidate for this role will reside in Massachusetts, and is comfortable driving throughout the commonwealth on a daily basis. This position is responsible for promoting our wholesale business in Massachusetts primarily, with occasional trips to neighboring states.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Grow Castle Island wholesale revenue within assigned territory year-over-year through increased points of distribution, new product placements, in-store demos & events, chain support, managing allocations and inventory in region.
- Handle account level work for key accounts, new accounts, and national accounts.
- Perform supporting activities (promotions, staff trainings, festivals, hand sells) at the account level.
- Plan, manage time, and prioritize as necessary to align efforts with monthly objectives and company sales goals.
- Ensure consistency with all marketing initiatives throughout the territory as well as consistency with overall brand.

Log account visits and interactions in KARMA, our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool after each account visit.
- Castle Island standard account visit minimum is 40 per week or as defined by supervisor.
- Monitor point-of-sale (POS), placements, and product freshness at all accounts.
- Effective communication to wholesaler regarding commitments in the market, CRM notes, chain updates, inventory updates, new items, promotional activity, and any additional items deemed necessary to share.
- Respond to all communications (internal and external) within 24 business hours including emails, calls, texts, etc.
- Submit weekly administrative reports in a timely fashion. It is expected that administrative duties take less than a half day of work and the remainder time is spent in the market.
- Prepare and submit monthly expense reports by deadline provided, with all expenses and receipt capture adhering to company policy.
- Check in with supervisor weekly. This is your time to ask questions, gain guidance, and provide feedback from the market/distributor.
- Professional Appearance and Responsibility:
- Professional appearance - Look the part, and gain respect by dressing appropriately. This includes Castle Island Logo branded shirt or collared shirt at all times in the market, and no damaged, stained or worn/faded pants.
- Alcohol consumption - it is very important to always consume alcohol responsibly. At no time is a Castle Island employee to be intoxicated during company time or when representing Castle Island in the market.
- All Castle Island employees must adhere to all ethical business practices and always be responsible in our distribution market.
Education & Experience:
- Minimum 1-3 years outside sales experience required. Alcohol industry sales experience encouraged.
- Brewery experience a plus.
- Driver’s license, a clean driving record, and access to a vehicle that can be used to travel between accounts.
- Understanding of beer styles and production.
- Familiarity with On and Off Premise key business practices.
Skills:
- Must be able to talk to others to convey information effectively and influence decision making behaviors.
- Effectively ask questions and listen to retailers, distributors, consumers, and other company employees.
- Computer proficiency and associated programs including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Job will also require use of sales tools including iDIG and KARMA; prior experience with these systems is a plus but is not required.
- Evaluate sales opportunities and identify when the buyer is giving you closing signals.
- Organization and market planning to perform duties effectively and routinely.
- Decision making, empathy and negotiation.
Physical Requirements:
- Extensive car travel: average 20,000 miles annually – must plan routes smartly to maximize efficiency and conserve gas, and must use best practices in the market. Must have reliable transportation and space for items such as cases, kegs, POS, etc.
- Weekend/Night Availability: Periodic night and weekend commitments for events and product demos. This will vary depending on market needs and seasonality.
- Overnight Travel: Occasional trips for meetings and or to assist in new or existing markets.
- Lifting and moving cases (~25 lbs.) and kegs (~165 lbs.) of product.
Compensation:
- $55,000-$68,000 salary
- Additional quarterly bonus potential (target bonus is 15% of base salary)
