Job Summary
Cassville R-IV School District is seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Specialist with a strong background in carpentry. This role will play a vital part in maintaining a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for our students, faculty, and staff. While assisting with general school maintenance, primary focus will be utilizing carpentry expertise for structural repairs, custom fabrications, renovations, and preventative woodwork maintenance across the R-IV campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Carpentry & Structural Repairs: Construct, install, and repair structures and fixtures including doors, windows, drywall, flooring, trim, cabinetry, and drop ceilings.
- General Maintenance: Perform routine facility repairs including minor plumbing, basic electrical troubleshooting, hardware replacement (locks, door closers), and painting.
- Campus Safety & Upkeep: Inspect buildings, playgrounds, and perimeter fencing for safety hazards; perform immediate repairs to ensure compliance with safety codes.
- Special Projects: Build or modify classroom furniture, shelving units, stages, and ramps to meet specific educational or accessibility (ADA) needs.
- Preventative Maintenance: Execute scheduled upkeep on facility infrastructure to prolong the lifespan of school assets and prevent costly emergency repairs.
- Emergency Response: Assist with seasonal tasks such as snow removal, storm cleanup, or urgent facility issues as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of professional carpentry or general commercial maintenance experience (experience in a school, hospital, or public facility is a plus).
- Technical Skills: Proficient in using a wide variety of hand and power tools, reading blueprints/schematics, and estimating materials for projects.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and stand for extended periods.
- Certifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. A valid driver’s license is required. Trade school certification or a carpentry license is highly desirable.
- Background Check: Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and fingerprinting (required for working in a school environment).
