Academic Interventionist

The Southwest Region School District (SWRSD) is seeking a dedicated, flexible, and adventurous Academic Interventionist to join our team for the spring semester (January–May 2026). This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact while experiencing the unique culture and beauty of rural Alaska. Position Overview The Academic Interventionist provides targeted support to students in reading, writing, or mathematics, working closely with teachers and site administrators to help students meet or exceed grade-level standards. The ideal candidate will be passionate about student growth, culturally responsive teaching, and creative problem-solving in a small, community-centered school environment. Key Responsibilities Provide small-group and one-on-one academic interventions based on student data. Collaborate with classroom teachers to support differentiated instruction. Assist in progress monitoring and data collection to measure student growth. Support the implementation of evidence-based reading and math strategies. Participate in school-wide initiatives and professional learning. Foster positive relationships with students, families, and the community. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field (required). Experience providing academic interventions or tutoring support. Strong communication and organizational skills. Commitment to cultural responsiveness and equitable education for all students. Willingness to live and work in a remote Alaskan village and fly on small plane. Compensation & Benefits Roundtrip flights to and from your home community provided. District housing included (furnished, utilities included or stipend provided). Paid cell phone plan for communication while on assignment. Winter gear package provided (cold-weather coat, boots, and gear). Competitive pay based on experience and Alaska teaching certification.
