Job Summary
This is a great opportunity to begin a career in law enforcement! A Sheriff's Detention Deputy with the Cassia County Sheriff’s Office works at the Mini-Cassia Criminal Justice Center in Burley, Idaho. Want to become a Patrol Deputy? This is where you start. A Jail Deputy Sheriff works in a team environment and performs a variety of law enforcement duties related to the security, safety, order, and operation of the county jail facility. These duties include the housing and supervision of inmates, booking and release procedures and armed transportation of inmates. A Deputy Sheriff works 12-hour shifts which rotate from day shift to graveyard shift every three months.
Requirements
Sheriff Deputy candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED certificate. Candidates will be required to complete and pass a physical readiness test, a criminal records check, a written exam, a background investigation, a drug screen, a medical screen, and a polygraph examination. Within a year of hire jail deputies are required to attend the six week-long Idaho POST Detention Academy at Cassia County Sheriff's Office expense. The Sheriff is looking to fill this position as soon as possible, so candidates must be able to reliably commute to Burley.
Testing
Qualified candidates for Deputy Sheriff will be required to submit an application packet and then will be assigned a testing date. The testing will include:
- Physical Readiness Test
- Written Test
- Formal Interview
Physical Readiness Test
Deputy Sheriff candidates must successfully pass the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training physical readiness test. The minimum standards are as follows:
- 14-inch vertical jump
- 15-situps in one minute
- 21 pushups (no time limit)
- 300-meter run in 1:17.
- A mile and a half run in 17:17.
A candidate must successfully pass all events during testing.
