Nurse Manager—Mills Oncology and Rheumatology Center
Primary Purpose:
To ensure the safe delivery of high-quality patient care through effective planning, organization, and direction of activities within the Mills Oncology and Rheumatology Center.
Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities:
Formally responsible for developing and making recommendations regarding departmental policies and procedures consistent with hospital goals and regulatory requirements.
Routine Decision Making:
Determines staff assignments and staffing patterns; ensures patient care and treatment are appropriate and consistent with current standards of practice; ensures adequacy and proper functioning of equipment.
Formal Supervisory Responsibility:
Varying numbers of healthcare and clerical employees depending upon the specific department.
Required Knowledge:
Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures, state and federal laws, and regulatory requirements related to patient care and nursing practice; understanding of disease processes, available resources, and equipment operation and performance.
Required Skills and Ability:
Must possess effective communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills; ability to delegate appropriately; demonstrate proficiency with healthcare technology; ability to manage budgets; strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Unusual Working Conditions:
Potential exposure to blood, body fluids, and hazardous medications or chemicals associated with oncology and rheumatology treatment.
Age Specific Competencies:
Provides care for birth to pediatric (birth – 2 years), pediatric/child patients between (2 years – 12 years); adolescent patients between 12 to 18 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older.
PART TWO: ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
- In addition to effectively performing all Cass Regional Medical Center accountabilities for a manager relating to People, Quality, Customer Service, Financial Strength, and Growth, this position also: (45% of time)
- Ensure departmental adherence to hospital guidelines. (30% of time)
- Attends monthly nurse leader and patient care service meetings (80% of time).
- Ensures departmental check list are complete.
- Submits reports and time sheets within scheduled time frames.
- Ensures compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Effectively coaches employees utilizing hospital policies and directives.
- Accountable for hiring, coaching and disciplining employees.
- Provides appropriate and timely education (25% of time).
- Ensure BLS, ACLS, credentialing and certifications are completed per Cass Regional policy.
- Coordinates department education on new processes and equipment to address specific patient populations needs as appropriate.
- Provides feedback from surveys to staff on a regular basis and implements actions as appropriate.
- Department Specific Responsibilities
- Manage departments by ensuring a consistent, evidence-based approach to patient care along with safe, appropriate and efficient staffing.
- Manage and delegate responsibilities to ensure patient care needs are met.
- Ensure processes are established to support safe patient care for all age ranges and populations of patients as indicated by department guidelines.
- Implement, facilitate and manage change to continuously improve quality and maintain standards set by regulatory agencies, certification bodies and other entities.
- Ensure effective communication.
- Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate the delivery of evidence-based patient care in accordance with clinical governing bodies.
- Actively participate in Nursing/Patient Care initiates as identified in the Strategic Plans.
- Responsible for budget maintenance and adherence to the financial plan including supply expense control, and planning for short- and long-term capital needs.
- Accountable for compliance with all policies, procedures and standards as set by state and federal agencies, Cass Regional, and other regularity entities.
- Demonstrates adherence and holds staff accountable to Cass Regional Medical Center Mission, Vision and Values.
- Ensures appropriate staffing and flexes staffing to meet patient volumes.
Qualifications:
Education and Certification/Registration Required for the Position:
Current RN license in the state of Missouri preferred. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. BLS certification required. Oncology and infusion background preferred. Prior management experience preferred.
