Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Cassopolis, MI, for a Finance Director. The Finance Director will oversee financial planning and reporting processes, prepare and review financial statements, manage budgets, and ensure accurate financial reporting in alignment with government regulations. The role involves analyzing financial data, developing comprehensive reports, and contributing to strategic decision-making. Collaboration with other departments and offices to effectively manage public funds and ensure financial sustainability is an integral part of this position.
This position is under the supervision of the County Administrator. Essential functions include:
- Performing a variety of complex professional, administrative and accounting/finance functions for the County
- Performing cost control activities
- Monitoring revenues and expenditures
- Preparing and managing annual budget
- Assuring effective and efficient use of budgeted funds
- Providing professional financial advice to the county administrator and board of commissioners
- Making presentations at various county meetings
- Preparing and overseeing the county’s annual audit
- Developing financial studies and plans
- Forecasting, estimating and monitoring the financial condition of the county to assure its fiscal well-being
- Creating funds and department line items as needed
Initial salary range is $87,194 - $100,277.
Requirements
Requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of progressively responsible governmental accounting or finance work
- CPA or CPFO is preferred but not required.
- Must have considerable knowledge and use of GAAP, fund accounting theory, principles and practices, public finance, fiscal planning, budgetary, accounting and reporting systems.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain professional integrity and respect for colleagues, co-workers, public and effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
