YOU DAY AS AN ASSISTANT COUNTY PLANNER - GIS SPECIALIST
Your day as an Assistant County Planner - GIS Specialist is a blend of fieldwork, collaboration, and technical creativity. You start by reviewing subdivision and floodplain ordinance compliance, inspecting properties to ensure they meet county regulations. Mid-morning finds you collaborating with the Highway Department, designing detailed GIS maps for the 5-Year Highway Plan or prepping visuals for an upcoming budget presentation. In the afternoon, you're back at the office, updating the internal LINK web application to reflect the latest data. Throughout the day, you work closely with the County Planner, tackling tasks that keep Cass County growing safely and efficiently.
YOUR SCHEDULE AS AN ASSISTANT COUNTY PLANNER - GIS SPECIALIST
This full-time county planning role works a consistent schedule of 8 am -5 pm, Monday through Friday.
REQUIREMENTS FOR OUR ASSISTANT COUNTY PLANNER - GIS SPECIALIST
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2 years of experience in planning and zoning, geography, GIS, grant writing, or any equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience
- Knowledge of operations, services, and functions of a planning, zoning, and floodplain program
- Firm understanding of pertinent Federal, State, and local codes and ordinances governing building construction, subdivision, and zoning
- Valid driver's license
The following qualifications are preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Planning, Geography, GIS, or a closely related field
- American Institute of Certified Planners certifications
- Knowledge of local Government operations, policies, and procedures
- Understanding of local Government planning practices, including land use and zoning regulation
- Firm grasp of county 911 requirements, policies, and procedures
- Skilled in the principles and practices of project management and strategic planning
- Technical drawings, schematics, and plans experience
- Strong knowledge of geographic information systems usage in planning activities and data presentation
- High-level proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS products, Microsoft Office, and eRecording software
