The Retail Food Safety Specialist collaborates with Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) team members and various business units to increase compliance with regulatory and internal food safety requirements. The Retail Food Safety Specialist will promote a positive food safety culture across the organization with a focus on education and collaboration.
- Develops, fosters and grows positive and professional relationships with Casey’s team members in all business units. May provide guidance to Operations team members on food safety standards to comply with regulatory and internal standards.
- Collaborate with FSQA team members and Casey’s team members to drive regulatory and internal food safety compliance.
- Assist with the execution of strategic objectives related to food safety, regulatory and internal compliance, and food safety challenges.
- Supports interactions with representatives of federal, state and local regulatory and enforcement agencies in response to on-site visits or requests for information.
- Reviews food safety inspection reports and reports findings to FSQA leadership to increase overall compliance.
- Assist in monitoring compliance and accurately documenting deviation from policies and procedures related to Food Safety.
- Collects key performance indicator data and accurately documents all required food safety activities.
- Leads Retail recall and withdrawal activities to support effective recalls and withdrawals from the retail stores.

Compensation:
Starting pay range: $54,000 - $70,900. Actual pay may vary based on Casey’s assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, and qualifications. This position is eligible for an annual cash bonus based on company performance. Other factors impacting pay include local prevailing wages and internal equity. Our full salary range for this role does extend beyond the typical hiring range listed, allowing team members the opportunity to continue to grow within the company.
- Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in Biology, Chemistry, Epidemiology, Food Science, Food Regulation, Human Nutrition, compliance, legal studies or a related course of study, or equivalent work-related experience is required.
- At least three years of experience working in food safety, food service, compliance, project management, inspections and auditing, or a similar field with an emphasis in regulatory issues is required.
- Certified Food Protection Manager, or willingness to obtain certification required.
- Ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams to assist in driving and monitoring solutions.
- Excellent business communication, writing skills, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate complex food safety topics to FSQA front line team members in a clear, concise, and comprehensible manner.
- Exceptional computer skills to include use of Excel, Word and other applications.
- Must possess the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet established deadlines in a timely manner with little supervision or oversight.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with extended hours of availability, when required.
- Ability to approach and solve problems in a logical and organized manner
Additional Requirements:
Work is primarily performed in an office setting. Occasional travel may be required.
