Under general supervision and direction, Legal Counsel performs legal work, and may direct related administrative work, involving one or more legal practice area specialties and/or for various assigned business units/functions within the company. Duties may be performed directly for, but often times in support of more senior attorneys supporting, such units/functions. Performs legal and other duties generally considered at a law firm “associate” level of responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
Starting pay range: $97,800 - $129,990. Actual pay may vary based on Casey’s assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, and qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include local prevailing wages and internal equity. This position is eligible for an annual cash bonus based on company performance and an annual equity grant in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Our full salary range for this role does extend beyond the hiring range listed, allowing team members the opportunity to continue to grow within the company.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in reviewing, evaluating, and providing legal recommendations and advice on various matters, with a focus on professional representation of the company, mitigation of risk and compliance with applicable law.
- Assist with advising business units/functions on the development, design, interpretation and application of policies, processes, standards and practices that meet legal, professional and company standards.
- Assist with monitoring implementation and compliance of such policies, processes, standards and practices and evaluation of legal risk mitigation activities related thereto.
- Act as a legal business partner to internal clients and professionally manage those relationships directly and/or with guidance from more senior colleagues.
- This position will have a particular focus on regulated-product compliance (including alcohol, tobacco products, and private-label consumer goods) and will regularly represent the company before various administrative agencies.
- The role will also support certain litigation matters, primarily general liability and workers’ compensation claims.
- Work professionally and efficiently with outside counsel on assigned matters.

Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree and a member in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
- At least three years of legal experience as an attorney, with knowledge of legal issues, methods, and processes relevant to the assigned legal specialty or business unit/function.
- Strong legal research and analysis skills and the ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities are required.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and the ability to maintain trusted relationships throughout appropriate levels, teams and functions across the company.
- Ability to weigh business needs with legal and commercial risks.
- Ability to work cooperatively, take ownership, and seek advice when necessary, all with a practical, can-do attitude.
- Ability to review, evaluate and provide legal advice to assigned business units/functions with a focus on professional representation of the company, mitigation of risk and compliance with applicable law.
- Ability to analyze, appraise and apply legal principles, facts, and precedents to legal or factual situations quickly and accurately.
- Ability to efficiently direct administrative work related to the responsibilities set forth above.
- Prior experience with multijurisdictional compliance is strongly preferred.
- Prior law firm experience strongly preferred.
