PENSION JOB! HEALTH INSURANCE ON DAY ONE! This position is a 10 month position, 182 days, 32 to 34.5 hrs a week (180 student days; 2 professional development days). CASE is seeking a dynamic and compassionate LPN/TA to provide quality, medical care in order for students to participate in all aspects of their school day; To work closely with students with disabilities in an effort to provide them with medical, physical, instructional, and emotional support needed for progress toward IEP goals; To assist the special and regular education staff in implementing activities within the school setting; Job duties can vary due to the diverse nature of the students. The Learning for Life (LFL) Program is a specialized program that addresses the many different cognitive, physical, medical, communication, and social needs of students. Students in LFL have multiple disabilities including complex learning and medical needs. The curriculum helps build independence and includes functional academics and daily living skills. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Follow individual protocols and procedures for identified special education students requiring medical or health interventions including emergency guidelines.
  2. Assess students’ health conditions for any changes in their health status and to determine if identified health needs are being appropriately met.
  3. Administer necessary nursing procedures based on students’ needs and doctor’s orders.
  4. Responsible for student’s supplies and daily medications.
  5. Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records, nurses’ notes, medication orders, individual health care plans and emergency plans on all assigned students.
  6. Report to parents, school personnel, physician, clinics and other agencies on school medical matters.
  7. Provide non-nursing personnel medically necessary training as it is warranted (i.e., seizure management, EpiPen)
  8. Provide academic support and direct instruction to students in one-to-one and small group (may include preview, reinforcement, review, individualized curriculum) to meet IEP goals/objectives.
  9. Assist teacher to implement appropriate curriculum, lessons, and modifications for students
  10. Provide supervision of the classrooms during times in which the special educator is required to be elsewhere in the building.
  11. Attend planning meetings, in-service workshops/trainings, Team meetings, and parent-teacher conferences, when requested by your direct supervisor and/or the Program Administrator.
  12. Consult with the classroom teacher and therapists around designated students, on a regular basis, to discuss student progress and to support and carry over classroom and therapy goals and strategies.
  13. Maintain knowledge and understanding of current IEPs of assigned student/s.
  14. Maintain and use adaptive equipment and materials.
  15. Supervise students with disabilities outside of regular class times, including, but not limited to, the transition from and to transportation and school, lunch, recess, field trips, assemblies, emergency drills, and hallway passing.
  16. Communicate with parents, if so instructed by the supervising teacher, in the manner determined by the CASE Teacher/Team.
  17. Provide students with disabilities necessary supports, while fostering and facilitating increasing independence.
  18. Assume assigned duties in another classroom if requested by the Program Administrator.
  19. Maintain the high level of confidentiality and professionalism expected of the teaching staff.
  20. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Program Administrator and/or Executive Director.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to: use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, see (including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus), hear and speak; e.g., computer, calculator, telephone.
  • Requires good physical condition in order to support lifting, positioning, and transitioning students, as needed, according to caseload/classroom assignment. Demands of lifting may be up to 50 pounds.
EVALUATION: Performance evaluation conducted biannually by the Program Administrator with input from the Special Education Teacher.
