CASE is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Per Diem Substitute Nurse to provide quality, medical care in order for students to participate in all aspects of their school day; To work closely with students with disabilities in an effort to provide them with medical, physical, instructional, and emotional support needed for progress toward IEP goals; To assist the special and regular education staff in implementing activities within the school setting.
Job Goal:
To provide nursing services to students with complex, chronic, or life-threatening conditions so they can safely access Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) as required by their Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
Pay Rate:
Per diem rate $300 to $350 (with Masters)
Does not include insurance benefits or holiday/leave pay

April 27, 2026 through August 7, 2026

Performance Responsibilities:
- Support students with multiple disabilities and those who are medically fragile.
- Administer nebulizer treatments, suction, and follow seizure protocols.
- Maintain health records according to state law and school policy.
- Observe special education students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
- Administer medication and treatment prescribed by physicians.
- Report to parents, school personnel, and physicians, for the care of a student who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.
- Assume authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.
- Provides skilled nursing care for students with complex needs, including g-tube feedings, catheterization, and tracheostomy care.
- Develops and implements Individualized Health Care Plans (IHP) and Emergency Care Plans (ECP).
- Manages and supervises the administration of prescription medications according to 105 CMR 210.000.
- Administer first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
- Implement board policy on exclusion and re-admission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
- Assist school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
- Assists with personal care needs such as toileting, grooming, and hygiene as outlined in educational plans
- Provides direct, general nursing care to students by assessing injuries and illnesses, administering medications, and managing acute/chronic conditions during the school day.
- Manages safe wheelchair transfers and the use of adaptive equipment like standers or walkers.
- Provides nursing care during student transportation to and from school when required for medically complex students
- Follow emergency procedures for the CASE classroom.
- Completes Health Care Plans as required.
- Reports to the Lead Nurse regarding all medical issues.
- Provides medical care for children in an educational setting.
- Completes all required trainings.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director/Program Administrator.
- Use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, see (including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus), hear and speak; (i.e., computer, calculator, telephone)
- Requires good physical condition to support lifting, positioning, and transitioning students as needed, according to caseload/classroom assignment. Demands of lifting may be up to 50 pounds.
- Meet the physical requirements necessary to implement physical interventions/escorts according to the Collaborative policies, protocols and special education regulations.
